Resistance on RTÉ

For someone like me not living in Ireland, I can only wait to have that RTÉ series 'Resistance' for sale on DVD to watch it. As I have noticed on various Irish news website, the first episode was shown on RTÉ yesterday. One review on that on the independent.ie was rather a 'low' rating, which didn't bother me much cos I have the first series 'Rebellion' which had sparked much controversial debate in Ireland a couple of years ago. I know about the historical inaccuarcies which were at the centre of the debates. Despite that, I like that series and would certainly look to purchase the other one which is currently to be screened on RTÉ once it is out for sale.

I also know that Irish history is often a very sensitive subject for debate when it comes to have films made upon specific time periods. I can understand that inaccuracies are irking and in some ways, I share such feelings too. But I also consider such films as being made more for entertainment and as long as the inaccuaries are not too much or too many of them, I can also enjoy them.

To my surprise, the other film 'Black47' is also on sale in the shops outside of Ireland. Another very sensitive subject which this film has at the core of the story and probably the first related to the Irish Famine 1845-48 ever made. I think that - although the critics are certainly right in many ways - I find that film interesting.

I would like to know what others think about that 'Resistance' series, but also about Irish films with historical background in general.

Note to the Moderators: If you consider this thread to belong into another forum, please feel free to move it. I was first considering to start it in history, but as this is about history for entertainment, I chose this forum
