My baby has taken my car

So. I had a 2012 golf TDI with 150k km on the clock.
My wife had a 132 1.2 Petrol fiesta 46K km on the clock.

We then decided to have a baby and found to the fiesta is not suitable for mammy and baby. Buggies won't fit in boot. For the last 4 months I've been driving her fiesta, no Bluetooth, no cruise control. I drive to site a good bit with work so do a good bit of road and I usually get a lot of phone calls during the day.

I'm happy for my wife to carry on with the golf, she won't be doing much mileage it runs well and it's a good size.

I need to get rid of the fiesta however. It's useless to both of us but funds are tight, about 5K to spare. I need something reliable, efficient and with BT and CC. Commute is 40km per day with usually 4-5 trips a month of 400-500km.

I am looking at Hyundai i30s but the hippy in me is telling me to stay away from diesel. Another option would be to instead get another car for the wife and child that spacious and I return to the golf.

Kill the hippy, get another diesel.

Still cheaper to run than a hybrid for that commute.

5k with the Fiesta? Trade in for another Golf if you're happy with it?

This bit concerns me in the diesel, she shouldn't be doing short trips and low mileage in a diesel, you will run into issues with it when regen cycles arent running etc.

Get her another car that suits and take your Golf back

Bluetooth and Cruise Control seem to be the two things you miss most.
Upgrade the radio in the Fiesta?
Doesn't solve the cruise control issue but saves circa 5K till the child is out of the buggy.

If the wiring harness doesn't need to be changed then cruise control can be fitted to Fiesta and head unit with bluetooth from a scrapped vehicle should be cheap.
If wiring harness does need changing then buying petrol Golf or car of similar size as suggested above seems like best plan of action.

    Ms

Get a petrol Skoda Octavia for the wife and child. You take back the Golf and sell or trade in the Fiesta.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Buy your wife a petrol Auris (2010>) and you take the Golf back. The Auris will return high 30's/low 40's on short trips, are reliable and have a decent size boot.

    I feel your pain OP.
I've been relegated from my A6 to a convertible golf :(

Ain't much room for golf clubs in the back of a convertible golf!

We are going to keep the A6 and sell the golf for a Superb Estate.
