Garda Vetting International Checks

Hey guys, I am wondering if anyone has been through something similar. I have secured a job offer in a firm subject to Garda vetting. I used to live in South America (Brazil) for 2 years and have also obtained a police clearance certificate from them saying I have had no criminal record there either. My question is do the Gardai liase with the Brazilian (or any foreign police force) authorities in doing the vetting process?

The new job is quite well paying and I hate (detest) my current job. I would quit my current job tomorrow and just wait for the short vetting process if it only pertained to Irish addresses. Although I will pass it, any contact with Brazilian police would of course lengthen the time clearance would take and could be short for money if it took 2 months .

    Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

The Gardai don't make contact with foreign authorities as such - however serious crimes committed overseas may be captured and reported through the likes of Interpol etc. There isn't a clerical officer somewhere emailing the Brazilian authorities asking about you ;)

Employers are usually advised to have their own policy around whether they seek any other vetting type checks from people who have lived overseas - however the vast majority don't understand the limitations of garda vetting so won't have it in place.

I have done this. Literally the guards just printed something out saying I have never been convicted of a crime.

This is almost always a tick the box task for HR.

    I wouldn't worry about it.
