that's a good price for an entry-level gaming laptop.

just note that the 1050 nvidia card will only run 1080p at low to medium settings on demanding games.

but the cost to go up to a 1060 card (which is a big performance upgrade) would be significant (1000 sterling price range for a good one)

once you're ok with that it's a good deal for 719 euro yes

it has a 256 gb ssd so you'll want to add in another drive if installling a few games (there will be a spare 2.5 inch slot which will allow a sata ssd drive 2.5 inch size or a spinning hard drive) but that's a cheap upgrade

Thks glasso, i bought a 128gb ssd for 20 euro from mymemory over christmas for the spare slot, should do for a while.
I opted for the 1050ti at one stage and it bumped the price by 180 euro.
But i have to say after many hours/days of looking, i don't see anything else that even comes close at this price...
I'm going to go for it and if it's bad i'll return it...

    Cheers.

it won't be bad. it will run games well . just play around with the settings

e.g. instead of 1080p low settings
900p or 720p higher settings can look better with higher fps

depending on the game you may need to look into game graphics optimisation guides

make sure you always have the latest nvidia drivers updated also

it's not going to run games at high / ultra settings at 1080p - just not going to happen but then again you don't really need that to enjoy the game.

with the discount just over 700 euro is good.

yes re the free slot the laptop comes with an m.2 ssd so the free slot is 2.5 inch.

there is this option for £700

with 1050ti. there is a reasonable bump in graphics perf with the ti

    from a review below
Indeed, if you compare the 3DMark benchmark scores (see above boxout) to that of the Asus ROG Strix ZX753VD-GC266T, you can see the difference the 1050 Ti makes as, aside from the GPU (1050 vs 1050ti), they are basically the same in terms of hardware. To take just one benchmark example, where the Strix scored 1,750 in Time Spy (DirectX 12), the erazer scored 2,478.

It would also depend on the games played. Basically the Dell has a much better CPU, that Medion has a much better GPU. Some (not all) of the very latest games are very CPU heavy and would struggle on the Medion (not to run, but unsteady framerate).

I also don't know about the Medion, but the Dell has RAM in 1x8GB configuration, that can seriously hurt game performance. Most games will only be a few FPS difference versus 2x4GB, but a few sensitive titles can be 50-80% slower (your framerate will be choppy, with spikes and drops).

I would have thought that most games would be still gpu-bound as opposed to cpu - especially given that even the 1050ti is on the lower-end of graphics cards.

i.e. that the cpu won't really come into it as the gpu is on the lower scale of cards so performance will be hit there first.

the 7300hq is not a terrible chip -- probably 30% behind the 8300h

Ordered last night, once my daughter clapped eyes on the Apline white colour, that was that, delivery expected on the 24/01/2019, a few people have used the long delivery times to their advantage, an extra 7% off in some cases, bringing the price down to 670 ish.. might ring and cancel and see what happens, or ask for an upgrade to 16gb..

The cheapest I could find 8gb ram for this model was 74 euro...

I have this laptop in Alpine white, albeit with an i7 and 1060 and I love it.

It really makes a difference in the latest 2018 games in particular where 4/4 CPU's are struggling.

Battlefield V online, Assassins Creed Odysessy, come to mind but there are a few others, and obviously over the next year or two it'll continue to become more common.

The difference between CPU and GPU bottleneck is that for the former, you can reduce settings to compensate, CPU bottleneck cannot be overcome.

Having said that on the balance of probability, the i5-7300HQ and 1050ti is better balanced right now for most games.

to be honest there is no point in doing that for the version you bought with a 1050 card as you won't be getting over 60fps in modern games.

unless it is dramatically better in other respects (colours, contrast etc). but the higher hz value is adding nothing. but for the cost could just have bought a laptop with a better screen?

might make sense for the version with the 1060 card, even more so with a 1070 card.

    bit cheaper - 68 euro

ram is pricey at the moment but was even more expensive a few months ago.
