Have a 16 y/o cousin looking for a job, they’re currently in 5th year and never worked before. Ive done up a CV for them (with JC results ect) and given them a cover letter template . What jobs should he be looking out for? Would he get a job in a shop?(can under 18s sell alcoholic drinks?)
    Thanks

No they cant and shops will only employ them if they have to as it a hassled to get someone else to do the alcohol sales, do they really need someone to tell them where to apply? its the usual Dunnes Tesco Centra Suprvalue ect plus pubs, restaurants and cafes and even today jobs like that are often got by a contact so ask parents aunts uncle and cousins.

CV with junior cert results is pointless. If they have never worked before the best thing to do is get them to meet the manager somewhere that's looking for staff. Only give CV if requested by the manager afterwards. If they have never worked before all the manager will be looking for is a willingness to work and a bit of cop on.

Obviously, he can get a job in a shop that doesn't sell alcohol, of which there are many.

Presumably, he's still a student, and is looking for part-time or casual work, not full-time?

Child orientated business would be a good shout. Dont know where you are based but a place similar to jumping lanes in Galway who hire all teenagers.

When I was that age, best bet were local shops and pharmacies as they were more inclined to hire than a lot of the bigger ones. That said I know quite a few who got jobs in Dunnes and Penneys. Won't be let sell alcohol so maybe look more at clothing shops and local newsagents that don't stock alcohol or deli counters in the bigger ones.
