Sync IPod Nano to Windows 8

    Hi,

    I have a really old iPod with a smashed up screen that I was hoping to sync to my laptop so I can view all the songs. When I connect to my laptop via USB its not showing in devices. I've played around with Device Manager and done the usual turn off/turn on again but nothing seems to work. If I download iTunes will it automatically sync? The iPod belongs to someone that has passed so I dont want to do anything that could wipe the songs. Thanks a mill
