Netatmo thermostat and Grant oil burner

    Hi all.

    Iv recently moved into a new house which has one of those Netatmo smart thermostat thingys. It works great and the app is a breeze to use. The house also has a dual heating system (solid fuel with back burner and oil fired heating).

    In our hot press there is a 3 way switch. Auto - which powers up the smart thermostat and supplies power to the boiler, basically allowing the whole system to control a set temperature. Manual - which shuts off everything except the circulating pump so as that I can keep the stove roaring and not have to worry about oil. And Off - which shuts everything off.

    Now the problem is this, when I set the switch to Auto, I should be able to let the system run on its own at all times, regardless of whether I have my stove lit or not. Let the thermostat switch on the oil at night or when we are away all day and ease off when the fire is lit. But my oil burner seems to have a mind of its own. It comes on even though the rads are glowing and the thermostat is way above its target temperature. Its not a problem with the wireless thermostat, because when it calls for oil, the relay in the hot press lights up. But the boiler seems to come on regardless of whether the thermo calls it or not. Seems to come on every 10 minutes for a minute and then knock off again.

    What could possibly be causing this.

    Its a fairly new Grant oil burner.

    your 3 way switch (zone valve) is sticking switch effectively calling the boiler even when your stat or programmer is not.
    with all power off the heating try moving the 'manual /auto ' lever back and forth between the two. might free the valve.

    Hi esox28. Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry about my delayed reply. After a bit of searching and some homework I found that the switch is fine but there seems to be a timer built into my heating control box and I think that it is this which is calling the boiler. Its a schrack zr5mf011. Can anybody tell me why this would be needed if there is already a smart thermostat also installed? Can I just turn dissable the timer? This seems to be a fairly new addition to the heating system.

    hi, just seen your reply... seems like an excessive amount of relays for stove - oil boiler system?
    with the schrack you can't just turn it to 'off' it seem to be set to call at 5hrs intervals (i guess). with set back 'delay' switched off.
    the wiring center has all the hall marks of a commercial electrician? any more photos or info might help.
