I have a leak upstairs in the hotpress where the floor is wet. It seems to be that the copper tank where the immersion thingy is is leaking (slowly I hope, since plumber wont get here until nxt Friday).
Just wondering ballpark figure for the cost of replacing it. Thanks

I'd hazard a guess 450 to 650 to supply and fit a new cylinder. It depends on what part of the country you are in & how busy your local plumbers are. Not being able to even look at it for a week isn't a good sign as far as the price goes.

Are you sure it's leaking & not condensation? Could it be a loose fitting on a pipe close to the cylinder?

Maybe throw up a few photos

Sleeper12 thanks so much for the reply. Yes I'm sure it's leaking at the bottom alright I'm changing the towel at least every hour and its soaked when I do.
I'm going to try now and pop up a few photos (I've no idea how so might take a while) if anybody knows how to cut off the water supply to the cylinder I'd be very grateful.

Usually in the hot press there are 3/4 inch pipes running vertical coming down from the attic. With luck two of these will have valves. One might be the cold supply from the cold water tank in the attic. Another one will also be coming from the cold water tank but this one enters close to the bottom of the hot water cylinder. Usually at the rear or side of the bottom of the cylinder. The valve on this pipe is the one you need off. The cylinder will still have water in it but at least it won't keep filling.

Maybe if you post what county you live in someone might pm you being able to get to you quicker than next Friday.

Monday is good. Leaks get faster as time goes on. I'd be concerned about waiting till Friday with the tank full of water.

Lol Odelay a tidy hotpress is an empty one.
Sleeper12 if I can trouble you one more time do you think maby so it's that knobby thing down by the towel? Also if I twist it is it pressurised as in will water spray everywhere if I do something wrong?
I definitely need to do a diy course I'm clueless!!!

Try turning off the red wheel valve in the first pic. Clockwise.

Your hot taps should only run for a few seconds if its the correct one.

This is exactly what happened to me last week. Was just about to go on a weeks holiday and noticed a small damp patch. Spoke to a plumber friend and he asked me to remove some of the insulation. Im glad I did. The water was lashing out if the inlet weld.
I isolated the supply into it and then drained the tank with a bleed valve off it. Then my plumber friend changed it while I was away.
Still haven't turkey but will update when I do. He mentioned €450 possibly and will update when I do.

I only see one photo on my phone but the valve won't be near the floor. Its usually shoulder height

Thanks a million Wearb too. I did that and the hot tap just ran for about 40seconds after then stopped.
Does that mean there is no more water going into the cylinder?
I'm in county Galway and I will update the thread to let people know how much it's costing etc.
Thank everyone so much really appreciate it.

Yes. Unless the valve is letting a little through. Leave the lowest hot tap opened just in case. It will stop the pressure from building up if the valve is letting by.

Just to update this in case the same happens anyone else the whole cost involved was just €375.
This is parts and labour for a new insulated copper cylinder fitted.
Plumber called first thing on Monday morning at 9am and had it fitted and working perfectly by midday.
If anyone is ever looking for a recommendation for a plumber in the south Galway region I'm happy to PM.
Many thanks to Sleeper12 and Wearb for the help in my moments of panic, much appreciated.
