    Hi all,

Looking for a bit of advice on a house I am interested in buying.
Basically it looks like the boiler & Oil tank were replaced with what looks like a Semi automatic boiler / wood burner.

I've only ever had an oil boiler & tank so know nothing about this set up. Its a Drew Met - I think they were burning wood in it but not fully sure. Would anyone be able to advise if this requires a lot of maintenance etc. How does it work with heating, does it need to be constantly topped up, kept on..?

Also, if I were to price fitting an Oil boiler and replacing the Oil tank what price range would I be looking at..?
I'm just trying to gauge what cost would be involved as there are a few bits to fix up in this house..Don't want to offer more than I can afford..thanks.

    When was the house built?

Whats driving the change back to a fossil fuel heating system?

I think the house was built late seventies - early eighties.

My reason for wanting to go back to oil isni don't know anything about the solid fuel setup. The convenience of oil is probably a factor. I would not be in the house all day so am wondering about how long it would take to heat the house in the evening, how often I would need to refill the burner. I'm also not sure how safe the system is although I would get it thoroughly checked out.

Obviously if it was a cheaper option I would rethink it to keep the solid fuel. Regular maintenance, cleaning and refilling would be my concerns on solid fuel & having the time to maintain it.

For an oil boiler your looking at approx 2k then you have tank/concrete bund/ and plumbing to consider

    Allow 5k
