I'm thinking about getting a tablet but I know the OS will be limited to Nought and won't be updated to Oreo. Is there a significant difference between the two? Well I be missing out on much? Is this likely to prevent me receiving updates to certain apps in the future?

    No you won't really.
I have found Pie to be the only significant update in the last few years

yes I'd agree - Pie is the only noticeable update in years.

Thanks for your replies smilerf and glasso, that's good to know.

I'm not sure I'm technically proficient enough, but aside from running the risk of bricking the device, but would it be possible to root it and upgrade to Oreo if I really wanted to?

(mods: I had a look at the charter, but if asking this is breaking the rules please feel free to delete)

Is it's a popular device then there may even be a pie Rom available. Check XDA site forum fur device

No discussion of rooting is fine.

I'm thinking about getting the Lenovo tab 4 10" plus, but it only has Nought and it won't be getting an update to Oreo.

Yup it's confirmed it won't get it but I'd recommend the Huawei MediaPad T5 instead - same price on Amazon and comes with Oreo.

Yeah I've the 8" Lenovo Tab 4 Pro and Nougat looks so old hat now. Wouldn't buy anything new with it.

Thanks advertsfox, I did consider the T5 but the lack of reviews online made me a bit nervous, it's a bit of a step up in price, but now I'm considering the Huawei MediaPad M5 10", my only hesitation is that it uses a c-type headphone jack so charging and using headphones at the same time wouldn't be a runner.

Thanks Patww79, I think I'll take this advice and steer clear.

I have 2 small USB C to Aux adapters at home from my Mi A2 that I'll never use so if you want one on me, just let me know!

If you're looking for a new tablet the mi pad 4 is the best price / perf ratio.

Either 8 inch or 10 inch

Buy from honorbuy. 3 day delivery. No customs as comes through Europe.

215 for 8 inch version delivered. 4gb ram 64gb version

Will get an update to Android pie soon. On oreo at moment.

Unlike Huawei you will have the option to put on a custom rom if you want.
