Dublin city council lack of dog parks?

Hi, have had dogs now since early 90s but have just got a lurcher, previously with training our dogs always had good recall and were obedient. But our lurcher being a sighthound will take sometime before he can be trusted, but we're now struck by the lack of fenced dog parks in Dublin city council area. Is st Anne's park the only one? Have been using the one in tymon park but it's a fair distance away. Surely with the dog population and revenue from licences the council should be providing more in the likes of bushy pk, sundrive pk, phoneix pk?? Anyone any opinion on this, can this thread be made a sticky to gauge folks opinion on this? Thanks for views in advance

We walk in St Anne’s all the time and have NO interest in the dog pen lol...but I get that it’s handy for dogs that don’t have recall. I think there’s one in St Catherine’s and another in Millenium Park in Blanch which are technically Fingal. My dog is restricted in parts of St Anne’s so he doesn’t hurt himself in the woods chasing squirrels so I have a nice long lead for him so he can still have some freedom. We live beside Griffith park and you wouldn’t have mad chase if he got away from you with the way it’s laid out - I’d be comfortable enough giving a dog a bit of freedom there while you’re working on recall especially early in the morning before all the gates are open and also once the evenings get a little brighter - especially before the clocks change when the gates are locked (two gates are left unlocked all the time) but it’s still bright.

Think is one in Cabinteely Park has a dog pen area, not too big but fenced, if I heard correctly Marley Park has one too.

What size of fences do they have in dog parks? I've a foster-lurcher that will hop HUGE heights - she was on a long-line for about 6 months before I could trust her.

I would reckon a determined sighthound might be fairly scopey... You might want to see what kind of respect he has for fences before you trust him off lead in a dog park. ;)

Well the one in st Anne’s isn’t tall at all! I’ve seen dogs jump it. And small dogs can get through the bars. They have a similar fence where they do dog training and we’ve seen a few escapees leaving school :pac: while we sit for coffee lol lol

I don't know whether to laugh or cringe at the thought of my dog ditching school and racing across the park... :pac:

:) the thought of dogs ditching school is pretty funny.

I’ve walked Mr C in St Anne’s and although the off lead area seems better than the one in Cabinteely (sp?) I can’t see the benefit and am pretty sure a lurcher burning energy would make short work of the fencing.
