Interesting development this ,could have huge ramifications for gigs in Ireland and LiveNations/Ticketmasters monopoly here.
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has announced that it is to launch a detailed investigation into the planned acquisition of gig group MCD by a joint venture involving international music giant Live Nation.

The CCPC last night said that, following a preliminary investigation, it has decided that a full investigation is required "to establish if the proposed transaction could lead to a substantial lessening of competition in any market for goods or services in the State".

Will it change that much? MCD is basically Live Nation already. If anything it means more shows for Ireland as Live Nation can be more risky and take the hit if tickets are bad (ala Taylor Swift)

Aiken, the only other real competitor, might struggle to get some acts if it becomes a numbers game, but they have strong ties with acts.
