Trying to get one for the missus. She lost weight and most of her clothes don't fit her. I thought it would be easy but there seems to be a absence of what I , as a man granted, would be standard clothing item. I want a good quality one. Any help appreciated. I am in Clare.

Cotton, wool, silk, leather..... what material. Do you want something plain or with a pattern? Colour?

I recently bought a jacket for my wife, but clothing wise I'd go along with her and give my suggestions if asked, but wouldn't consider it a good idea to buy her general clothing without her input for reason of:

    1. Sizing
    2. Style

Cotton. Navy preferably but dark grey is ok.

Have done before and it worked out fine.

Karen Millen or Reiss maybe. Cos could have some. You should check brands that do smart business style. Knee length pencil skirts are bit dated. Silhouette is a lot more relaxed and less put together at the moment.

And get a complete outfit while you're at it.

    That's a bit more challenging

Sorry but what does silhouette mean?

The overall shape of the clothes, in this instance.

Generally speaking, a silhouette is like a filled-in outline of an object, like here: https://goo.gl/images/jiXQ2p

I'd always say a pencil skirt never really goes out of style. Fashion, maybe.

I think this time it is more response to societal attitudes. Runners outsell high heels, push up bras are replaced by bras without wires and tight rigid clothing is replaced by more relaxed and also coverd up look. This time fashion is very political . That's why there are so few pencil skirts in the shops.

Have a look at House of Fraser - French Connection and Winser both have nice looking skirts in the colours you mentioned.
You've a better chance online than in store at present - I'm from Clare too and I can't think of anywhere in Ennis you'd get a pencil skirt right now.

    Fixed your post for you.

I love a nice pencil skirt. Must have a dozen maybe more with the ones worn most hanging in the wardrobe.

I do think a pencil skirt is fab.
I love the more relaxed casual silhouette but to be honest to feel great on a date or out for an evening for me personally I prefer to glam it up a bit and then I'm more than happy to go casual for weekday evenings and weekend days but definitely a bit of heels and glam for the feel good factor.
OP I can't think of a specific shop in Ennis that definitely would stock this right now. Lilys boutique has lovely pieces but perhaps not this. Maby a trip to limerick might be nessecary.

Marks and Spencer and Dorothy Perkins might be worth a try, have a look on their websites.

Pencil skirt reminds me of "mad men" and when I started office work in the late 80's.

Didn't think anyone wore them anymore.

I think some of the vintage type websites, Voodoo Vixen etc, do them.

I wore them 20 years ago when I worked in an office. The little split in the back of them used to get higher with every wear. Many an evening spent putting stitches in the back of them so the whole practice wouldn't see my arße!

I don't have that many skirts in total and I like to wear skirts.

Btw I have nothing against pencil skirts or any other clothing as long as I don't have to wear spanx underneath but there is a reason why op is finding it hard to get one. As for current fashion, some stuff is boring, some stuff is nice, some is awful, I don't hoard things so I just buy the stuff I really like and mix it with older items.

Maybe the shops on the street do not have that many of them in stock now but a quick look online finds lots. That's where I have bought most of mine.

I suppose everyone has there style and what might not look great on one person looks good an another person the same with what some people view as stylish or boring can be different.

@OP Debenhams and Next are worth a look.

Just type in pencil skirt on google and you get loads of choice.
