Summer and winter tyres NCT

Hi I have 2 winter tyres (3 snowflakes on them) and 2 summer tyres on my 1 Litre vintage car...both types on different axles though.

nct test failed me because apparently they need to be matching tyres on the same axle, so for example 2 winter tyres on (the front or the rear).

So is it best to put the summer tyres on the front axle and the winter tyres on the back axle, for safety and to pass the nct visual re-test?

    Thanks for advise..

Ideally you need 4 of the same, four summer or four winters. It sounds like some cheap part worn tyres were fitted (the winters)

Agree with above but if you doing to mix then i would put the winter on the drive wheels ie rear on a RWD

Isn't the advice to always put the best tyres on the back? So regardless of them being summer or winter put the tyres with the most thread on the back, providing everything else is the similar between the summer and winter tyres.

I always thought it was the best pair on the driving wheels?

Match tyres acccross the axle and if you have one set of directional tyres (winters usually are) and one set of non directional tyres the directional ones need to go on the rear if i remember correctly. Google the nct manual and have a read of the relevant section.

And what is best when you have a pair of winters and pair of summers?
Answer can be completely opposite depending on season.

Anyway - putting winter tyres in the front and summer tyres in the back, in case of driving in snow - will convert the car into perfect drift-wagon. Can be plenty of fun for some able driver :)
