I've been using Ableton 8 ever since I got my macbook back in 2014 and have never had any problems until this week. The only thing I can think of that has made it stop working is that on the same day my my disk drive stopped burning cds, but I was able to fix that with a dvd cleaner disc. Ableton still isn't working and I'm not sure how to fix it.
I've been using os x El capitan for a while now too and this has never had problems. Any help would be appreciated.
This is the error message that pops up

I did dome Googling and a very similar error seems to have happened with Safari. The Workaround 2 solution in the link here seems to have worked for the Safari issue anyway. Might help with Live as well. Seems to involve moving the relevant filed referenced in the error code at the bottom of the message you posted.

I'm not a Mac user so I've no real world experience :)

Tried everything I could find online about it and yours included thanks, but still couldn't get it working, even tried uninstalling/reinstalling. I just ended up updating my Osx and got Ableton 9. Can't open any old projects atm though, it's gonna be a long week :(
