    Hi guys,

I have a job offer for auditing in a big 4 firm graduate programme. I was wondering if anyone here is able to explain to me how long it takes to reach a senior position within one of the big 4?

Obviously that's gonna vary but typically how long would it take to reach senior manager? Could it be done within 6-7 years of starting at the firm?

Depends on the firm and different firms have different management titles. When I was in PwC a few years ago it was 3 years qualifying, 2 years assistant manager, 3 years as manager and then promoted to senior manager (so 8 years). Pretty much automatic to get to senior manager level but could have changed since.

It depends as mentioned above. I know in Tax in KPMG the typical route is 3/3.5 years as trainee, 1 year as senior (or 9 months if you've done 3.5 year training contract), 2 years as manager, 2 years Associate Director, Director for Life! In audit, it's often 2.5 years as manager and AD but it really depends on performance and timing. The majority move on after training because it is a tough old slog.

Somwhere like 4-5 to make manger, probably another 2 at manager. I’d say 7 years to SM would be fairly good progress.
