    Evening all.

    Mrs. S has a 64gb S8+, and recently got a storage warning.
So me being the good husband, got her a 128gb sd card to alleviate the problem.
However, I've made a bags of things doing the transfer.
Thinking logically, I set the camera to auto-store on the sd card, and created individual folders on the card to mirror the internal structure.
Then I copied everything from their original location to the sd card.
This has resulted in the camera saving to the card (woohoo), but the copied files having no order when viewed in Gallery.

Luckily, like I said above, I only copied the files, so starting afresh with the sd card shouldn't be a hardship.

So whats the best way to...
    Install the card
Set the camera to use the sd card as default
Move all current images/videos to the card whilst maintaining the default "sort be date" option
Set all future media (WhatsApp/Viber) to store to the card?

    Thanks in advance.
    S.

I'm not sure how SD's work in Samsung phones now for defaults, but you could plug into a computer and move the files around that way (handier than on the phone).

Would also be well worth looking at Google Photos and just deleting all the photos once they're backed up to there.

You transferred them using a USB to the Phone with your computer yeah? You've just discovered the wonders of MTP.
Move all current images/videos to the card whilst maintaining the default "sort be date" option

Pull the cards out, copy them using a card reader NOT the phones. Date Modified will be maintained not updated to the time of copy.

    Cheers ED E.

    So to be clear...
    Remove card from phone.
Copy all data from phone to folder on desktop.
    Copy from folder to card.
Reinsert card and we're good to go?

Yep. That way you're actually copying the files whereas over the cable you're actually creating new files with the contents of the old ones.

Use a better gallery app. I like FOTO gallery.

Cheers beauf, will look into that.

I think the reason herself uses the default one, as that's where she's sent once she takes a picture and wants to view it.
Can you set the default picture app to FOTO, or something else?
Also, if it does, it probably still won't sort my original problem as the way I originally transferred the files didn't transfer the "date taken" info.?

I just set the camera app to a folder on the SD.

I have the problem with the oh just takes photos till it's full and it's a pita to clear the phone.

Why bother with any of this? Phone should not be used for storage, all that stuff will be lost. Backup to cloud instead.

Can you name a cloud service that competes with SD card storage that offers free backup without reducing quality?

Google backup is free for pixel users with no quality reduction, normal users can only choose 'high quality' tho. Google drive can also be used for original quality backups.

This does not matter tho, sd-cards are not suitable for long-term storage! Even manually uploading the images to dropbox would solve the issue.

Didn't know about Pixel but you'd run through the free offerings of Google Drive and Dropbox fairly quickly if you're looking at 128 GB SD card upgrades!

They're not suitable long term no, but most people seem happy to accept that in the absence of large free backup (actually most people I know have no form of backup at all). People enjoy taking photos, not too many of us are bothered to look back on them though!

OP S8+ do you want a free spigen neo hybrid cover?

Dopey here ordered the wrong one and its too late to return

Cheers for the offer ford2600, but she'd not use it.

Bought her 2 of the official Samsung see thru smart cover yokes, pink and purple. She's only ever used the pink, so the purple is lying idle! :o
