Ok, can anybody tell me if I have made some sort of no,no or insult to a dealer while inquiring about a vehicle.
So, I ring up a dealer inquiring about a vehicle he has for sale, I asked him how much inc vat he wanted, so in my head I'm trying to work out how much in euros that is and trying to factor in vrt also, witch just in my quick calculation in my head while on the phone is going to be just over my budget.
So I said " right, I'll go do some calculations and try and work something out and I'll ring you back soon"
Now it seems he is not answering my calls, I must be after ringing 10 times, twice I got a dial tone so figured he must be on the phone to someone else, rang back a minute later and still no answer. What gives? Can anyone shed some light on why he wouldn't answer me back?

Move on. Imagine having bought the car and having an issue with it, then having to face that kind of chasing. Plenty of choice out there, even more so when importing!

It mightn't be the case in the UK, but it's probably the busiest day of the year for Irish dealers.

He could just be doing other stuff. If there is a customer sitting down with him in the showroom then he wont be answering the phone while with them, you could be an hour with a customer and he'll have more than one customer per day. It can be hard to catch salesmen on the phone as people standing in front of you in the showroom will always take preference but this doesn't mean they don't want to do business.

You might find a lad somewhere else who is quieter, which might suit you better but you could create an argument for or against that too.

Maybe don't ring his direct line, ring the main reception and ask for him, if they reply "he's with a customer", then you know what the story is.

If its anywhere close to you, go and speak to him in person. I worked for a few months in car sale and 90% of calls were from people you'd never see or hear from again.

    Call in person.
