USB Type C Change Over

Getting a new phone with this connection and have a few of the other usb cable's (long ones, one with power bank, one that winds up for car etc)

Would the cheapest option be to get a few adaptors and in time replace these with proper usb type c cables

More often than not I'll use the one that comes with the phone for charging. Just paying over 300 on a phone, I don't fancy adding much more cost

    Thanks

Looking on honourbuy adaptor is 87c and cable is 5 or so, think they're 3 in tiger?

No get the proper usb c cabels. Adaptors are of very low quality I find. I had 2 break very easily. Never again, just get the cables.

Tbh I'd buy decent cables. Especially now with phones drawing multiples of the amps they used to. I've seen cheap cables melt and burn in the past. It's just not worth it.

Couldn't agree more. The cheapo adapters are terrible. Got 5 on ebay for prop €3 - two fell apart with a week. Did get a couple of cables from Wish for prob €1 each. After testing with heavy loads, they've kept going. But you never know what you are going to get.

Be very careful with USB C as the power draw is huge compared to older connectors. I wouldn't mess around with cheap cables.

I'd only buy cables from a reputable brand.

Regarding adaptors, I bought a few Anker ones a couple of years ago when I got my first USB C phone. Still going strong.

IKEA do USB C cables and they are good quality and cheap. Just get the new cables.

Yep, always buy Anker too and never a single issue.

Surely then a Xiaomi or Anker adapter would be the cheapest option until some deals pop up on bargain alerts? (got anker or that box of different sizes on that forum for a great price)

Have been using adapters for months now without any issue. Make sure you purchase good quality adapters and you'll be fine. I always recommend Anker products. Never had an issues but from reading reviews their returns procedure/policy appears to be excellent.

Get the Ankers. I've three, one permanently in my wallet for emergencies.

Any way to get them cheaper than the two pack for over tenner on Amazon ?

I know anker good, but seeing Irish sites selling adaptors for 87c each

Two pack showing as 6 gbp, four pack for 9 gbp. Do you know anyone with prime to get free shipping? Otherwise just add to your next larger Amazon order.

Edit: actually the 4 pack will not ship to Ireland for some reason. Yet I can purchase the 4 pack from Amazon US from Anker but the import duties make it pricey. I fired an email to Anker to ask why they will not ship the 4 pack. Probably a mistake.

The 2 pack ships to Ireland from Amazon UK.

Edit 2: Anker say it is not them, they have no control over shipping. It's Amazon policy. Contact Amazon UK.

You can get cables for that amount. Why spend that much for a compromise?

I got some cables from a reputable eBay seller but when I connect them to the USB mains plug unit they do not charge the phone (or maybe more accurate to say they trickle charge). So phone will indicate charging but % never rises in fact the charge is so low the phone will discharge while connected.

Could be the cables I bought... but I also wonder if it's that the plug into the mains simply cannot pull enough power to supply the cable. In which case an adaptor put on the end of a cable will not make a difference (maybe)?

I've just bought a new USB C mains charger and it works as well as the one supplied with my phone. Was €15 but at least it works.
