I've been kind of struggling to justify this one for the last week.
    Mains specs: i5-8265U, DDR4 8GB, GTX 1050 MAX Q, NVME 256G M.2 SSD

My current laptop is a big Asus 17" gaming laptop I spent 2k on, and I want similar performance. This one comes close enough, though I often use between 8 and 10 gigs of ram. 8.4 while typing this.

I need something extremely light as I will pretty much need to take this laptop everywhere with me in a bag or in my scooter in case of emergencies on my website. PhpStorm is the main application along with a local dev server. I want a very snappy laptop so that I can work as I do on my main, and also play some games.

    Reasons for:
    1.6kg.
    9-10 hours battery.
    Full-size HDMI.
    Light.
    I don't need an i7 for anything I do.
256gb is enough. Rocket League and maybe CIV are the only games I'll have on it.
Looks very nice with the blue finish and small bezels.

    Reasons against:
    Thinkpad keyboard is better.
The cost and it feels totally unnecessary to get the latest model.
Too new for issues to have cropped up and be reported online.

I don't particulary mind spending the money. I just don't like wasting money. Any alternatives welcome.

there is a sub 1kg 15.6 acer laptop that is also in the mid-range price segment coming out (should be available now or soon) so 1.6kg is not super light for that screen size anymore

there was the LG gram out for a while but that had a high price

same specs pretty much. the extra cost for an i7 on the u mobile processors is not worth it as the performance increase is not huge < 10% so you wouldn't notice it. something like the addition a discrete graphics card like the mobile mx150 would make a much bigger difference.

    here is the acer

edit the acer does not have a discrete graphics card like your link

the one that you have with the 1050 will run games at 1080p low settings yes and for that combo of a graphics card + cpu is light. although 1.6kg does not "feel" ultrabook light in use.

I had checked out that Acer before. Very nice but I want the graphics card since I think my girlfriend will be using my gaming laptop for a lot of her work and I don't want to switch a lot.

As for the i7 thing, I'm pretty sure there is no difference at all since nothing I use utilizes extra cores really.

Guess I might just get it this week.

Both the i5 and the i7 have 4 cores.

But yes won't get lighter for the price with an ok graphics card although the Max q version is not as Powerful as the normal 1050 of course.
