Are cracks in sidelights lenses an NCT fail?

Not DRL's just the combined side lights / indicators on a '11 Scirocco

Must have got hit by stones or something this summer, still light up fine, only noticed it today doing a check.... NCT on Wed.

If they let in water or could do it will fail.

    How obvious is it.

Clear vinyl tape with permanent adhesive will ensure no water gets in. Any sign maker will have some.

If there's sharp glass exposed it will be a fail as it's a risk to pedestrians/cyclists, also if the crack distorts the light it will be a fail. If it's just hairline cracks should be grand.

5mm hole in one , hairline crack in the other.

Ok the one with the hole has some condensation inside, can maybe fix and seal that.

Just got a quote of €300 to replace both!!!!!!

Currently in Beaumont getting my heart re-started.. :D

Not made of glass for the last 20 years, also unlit cyclists at night who don't see me deserve whatever they get. (/rant, sorry)

The likes of Halfords or most motor factors will have clear, red & amber tape usually in a pack, patch it up as best you can & see how you get on

Take off the rubber seal behind the headlamp a few days before the NCT and the condensation should be clear

Fut some film over it and wasn't noticed.

However, failed on a leaky rear shock and it's gonna cost me the guts of a grand to fix.

Yes, they're the electronically adjustable ones.... Yes, VW have you over a barrel with them...:mad::mad:

Just a thought. Can you swap the rear shocks for ordinary ones and get the originals coded out.

The price I got was for a pair... technically I only need 1

I could downgrade - and actually discussed that option with the guy I'm getting to do the work... it would mean doing all 4 (otherwise the ECU goes nuts), it would ruin the car, and still cost about half the price including fitting.

Only other option was to replace the one leaky shock, not the pair - worry there is the other side will go shortly after...

    Catch 22. :(

I replaced a cracked light similar to that on a Passat CC a few years back. Cost around €40 from a VW dealer. 5 mins to fit too.
