Have a new 10 year USA visa, I suppose I don't need ESTA?

    Had to get a proper visa because of a visit to Iran. Forgot to ask when picking up visa in Dublin if I needed an ESTA. I'm Irish and have been to US 6 or 7 times. Am asking here as US Embassy site is a too confusing.

    Do you hold a valid, in date B1/B2 visa for US? If so you do not need a ESTA

    As you already know a trip to Iran means you will never be able to get an ESTA again and need the real visa

    Correct, ESTA is part of the visa waiver program i.e. it's for people who qualify to visit without a visa.

    It is a 5 year wait to qualify for ESTA again once you visit Iran. Not a lifetime ban.
