My local supermarket has one for years but I've never seen anyone use it and it's an area with limited fibre.

    I'd recommend Weetabix.

I saw them being used the odd time.

People in a small town were kind of excited about them when they first started but an issue I found people who'd be there target market weren't really into or have at all card payment especially at that time.

Funny that I was only thinking there a few weeks back if video libraries were still a thing. I used to remember going into the local Xtra-Vision with my dad when I was a kid. We'd go in on a Friday or Saturday night and browse the aisles for a decent flick, then we walk up to the counter and my dad would pull out the iconic Xtravision Card which I thought at the time was as important as a Credit Card at the time, and we'd rent the film for the night. Of course, this was during the time of VHS tapes so you had to rewind the video back to the start after watching it before returning it the next day. Wasn't too bad either, it'd cost you about £2 to rent it out for the night which wasn't a bad deal if you ask me. I used to rent games out for the night as well. Good times.

I actually used one once many years ago- in some respects it’s sad to see the booths go- I wonder will they be auctioned off as they’ll be a nice bit of history in years to come and a bit of a man-cave must have item 😀

I still use my library for picking up dvds as they can get in obscure stuff thats not worth buying and is also rarely on a legal streaming service. Thankfully my local library is excellent

    ^^^^^^^^^^

    any durty stuff?😉

  • Ah I do get a bit sad when I think of Xtra-Vision, was always enjoyable to pop in and browse the isles, maybe rent something. rarely would buy anything outright though, mainly cos the stock was always shite compared to GameStop.

They done it to themselves anyway, how they expected to make money by offering unlimited rentals every month for like €8.99 iirc? How in the name of jaysus are you making any money that way..!

Plus - they tried to hold onto a market that was on its way out. One thing that’s kept GS going long after competition dies off is they’re willing to adapt. Game sales are down in recent years, so they sell tat to make up for it.

I miss XV, very much, I really feel bad for anyone who really relied on them due to no or poor internet connections though. But it says a lot about how there’s just no money in rentals, when even VENDING machines are too expensive!
