Hi there, i have an interview coming up for a Technician Grade 1 position in a local authority. I am looking for some advice regarding the type of job it is, and the type of questions that could be asked? Thanks.

Do you know what section of the LA they are recruiting for as the Technician roles vary widely.

That's the thing, I don't know which sections are recruiting. I did ring the HR section but they were reluctant to give any information out.

If a panel is being formed for all sections, is one expected to know the ins and outs of everything...?

For example Housing is quite different to Roads or Environment in terms of technical knowledge.

Your knowledge may determine where you can be placed.

Typically, Housing wouldn't have any Technicians. The main bases are Planning for Validations and preparation of documents.
City Architects for preparation of drawings.
Surveying and Mapping for drawing also.

So depending on your previous experience and what path you took will depend what they hone in on in the interview and ultimately your placement should you be successful.

What are your core skills ?

    AutoCAD
    Microstation
    BIM
    Surveying
    Land Surveying / Mapping
    Architectural
    Graphic Design
