Employer Witholding Wages-Legal?

I work for a large multinational and at my site X% of wages are witheld from every paycheck and then paid back in December and called X% bonus (a complete scam). I'm renegotiating my contract soon and I would like to opt out of this as I'd rather have the money in my own pocket rather than theirs

they are allowed if OP consented to it - when joining company and didn't read the paperwork too closely.

nothing wrong with offering a christmas saving club. nothing wrong with sending an email to payroll and telling them you wish to be unenrolled.
i think you will find your average multinational are very aware of whats legal and what's not.
