One the last few days and the memories man, oh the memories. Lots of 80's music and heaps of ads, promos, links, voices and of course, the jingles. So far I've heard output from Centre Radio, more than one version of Nova, CAU FM, Q102, Energy, Boyneside, Heartbeat, Sunshine and a few that I've missed out on.

Currently on 88.1FM until about January 2nd, and also on Tunein on via Stormnortheast.

Initially this afternoon, I picked up a station with RDS of "Tribute", with IDs as described. That must have been on 88.1 FM.

At the same time, there was another station with the same RDS of "Tribute" with a relay of CharityRadio.ie. This was also on Energy (Power) AM on 1395 kh. What I would say was happening there was that some pirate on FM was in fact relaying Energy, which happened to be relaying Charity Radio! This was probably 101.2, as they have been relaying Energy lately. Later this evening, all three frequencies (FM and AM) were playing the same 1980s pirates "Tribute".

Admittedly I was not listening for long, but one station I did not hear ID for was Capitol (Nitesky Radio). I would love to have heard the voice of Tony Allan saying: "Capitol - Playing All You Want to Hear"! This does not take away from the wonderful efforts put in by a number of radio enthusiasts.

I noticed that Charity FM show I heard strangely dated from July 2018

I thought it said July too! I wouldn't mind but one of the presenters said that to prove it wasn't recorded they would say the date!! Not Charity FM by the way as it is an online station!

How many frequencies is "Tribute" on at the moment? Is it still 2 FM and 1 AM? I'm not near a regular radio at the moment. And are the FM frequencies 88.1 and 101.2?

Currently playing a Rick Dees chart countdown from 1986 on Tribute.. 1395 AM and 101.2 FM

Currently playing a Rick Dees chart countdown from 1986 on Tribute.. 1395 AM and 101.2 FM

I was just out in the car around Ballinteer getting fuel. So, I availed of the opportunity to scan the radio. As the man said, Rick Dees was on the above two. However, I was consistently picking up Tribute on another frequency as well - 88.1 FM, I believe. As well as those three, I briefly got it on 93.2 FM, displaying RDS of "Easy". Easy Radio's facebook account says that they were going to be relaying this. Finally, I briefly got Tribute on 92.0 (no RDS), home of Retro FM.

So, to answer a previous question by me, Tribute has been relayed on at least 5 different frequencies, with the strongest around my area being 88.1 FM, 101.2 FM and 1395 AM. EDIT: According to Rock Solid on the Bandscan Thread, it is also being relayed on 101.4 tonight. This is 6 frequencies.

A lot of Atlantic output was getting airing this afternoon, and wow I had forgotten how big that station sounded.

I heard a bit of that. That was cheating a bit seeing as Atlantic 252 launched on the 1st of September 1989!

It was the biggest thing to happen to the wider radio scene at the time, so why not?

It does not matter to me. It's just that I thought the idea behind Tribute was to mark the 30th anniversary of the closedown of most pirates in 1988 by playing stuff related to '80s pirates. So, Atlantic 252 fails on two counts! But you are right about the significance of Atlantic 252 when it arrived on the scene. Pirate activity was definitely very low-key at that point in time.

5 days versus 6 hours of showing what came after the super pirates and you have a problem with this?:rolleyes:

Personally would have preferred the last day of Sunshine or Q then the Atlantic recordings but still a great effort by all those involved and hopefully gives the younger generation an insight to how the pirates really sounded as opposed to biased soundbites talking about mickey mouse operations, tape decks, biscuit tin transmitters and interference.
I recall a particular individual from one of the new legal stations saying on RTE that Atlantic could not be received in Dublin....

Playing the Atlantic recordings did highlight what a damn good radio station it was and overall Tribute FMs compilations highlight how lucky those who were around in the 80s were to have quality 'pirate' radio stations of the time.

From reading here it seemed like a cool effort by a few pirates to put together something, I've a passing interest (not enough to know it was happening obvs!) and would like to have heard it live is all...

Fantastic website - from great interviews with former DJs,Engineers,Station owners spanning many decades (who knew the BBC assisted RTE in jamming Nova !) , old recordings and old station imaging , well done to all involved.

There are some timeline errors (ARD was not on air in Dec'88 !, and Eddie Bohans interview about Nova contains a number of errors) but overall escellent

Yes crystal clear in Tallaght, good idea like last year.

I heard Tribute today on some frequency which initially displayed Easy. I am assuming that was 91.6 - I did not check the actual frequency as I was just looking at the displayed RDS as I was driving. There was some interference, though.

It was in fact 88.1 where I heard Tribute, Curiously, when I went onto it first, Easy was displayed on the RDS in my car but then changed to Tribute. There was some slight interference. I'm now thinking it's BBC Radio 2, rather than the silent transmitter for Christmas FM.

The RDS in may car now says, when I use the info button, "Easy FM Presents Tribute 31 Years of Free Radio.". A bit confusing for our younger audience members!

Not really - it's a statement of fact.(scrolling is not popular with the powers that be as an aside)

PI Code has been changed resolving the RDS issue.

    How young is young?

I can't see many 'young people' flicking through FM radio and then being outraged at the confusion in their tiny brains because of scrolling RDS!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Totally agree Keith the first one or two were great but now it’s just boring same thing the last 4/5 years or however long it’s running, Time for a different idea.

I left out one word! Easy FM Presents Tribute Remembering 31 Years of Free Radio.

I just meant that it is obvious to the older anoraks and those who have a knowledge of the radio history of that time what that phrase means. Namely, 31 years since the big pirates closedown of 1988. To others, it would not be obvious. Yes, I am being a bit finicky and it's only a small point!

I enjoyed the trips down memory lane as I dipped in and out during the day when on the road.

In fairness, the pirate activity in 1989 and 1990 was much much quieter, compared to 1988 - even if there was some, such as Radio Dublin. However, I think 1991 was a particularly eventful year in Dublin with the likes of DLR, Radio Caroline, Coast FM, Sunset and NSR. This is when you heard new types of pirates and new voices. I think that would be the next significant anniversary, which could be marked in 2021.

Great to hear Tribute FM, memories of how great radio was back in the 80s.

    Those Jam Jingles !

I was coming down from the North this evening and got the signal north of Dundalk, albeit weakly and suffering from splatter from BBC2. The closer I got to Dublin the louder it got, and Man it felt good. Hell, I almost turned off for the Sand's Hotel :)
