Mods feel free to move,if in wrong forum, but need advice please.other day I noticed that there was a small dead dog, jack Russell ,in the neighbours driveway ,poor thing was lying at the back of the neighbours car, near their gate.

Told the neighbours wife, who said,it would be removed, but the dog is still there today, I don’t want to come across as a hinderance or a nosey neighbour but from an environmental point of view, the longer the dog is there ,you can imagine the rest,

So was just wondering, does anyone have any advice on what to do next?Cheers

'The other day' as in yesterday? A week ago? Longer?

That is the most shocking thing i have read in a long time; bless you for caring. me i would quietly after dark take a bag and remove the poor wee critter and bury it decently and with respect well away from that house.

    shameful people.

Did the neighbour own the dog? If they do, it would be an environmental issue to leave the dog there..would be interesting if it was found how the dog died too

Thanks for the replies, the dog I think has been there, in the last 24 hours, the neighbours don’t own any pets at all,so which makes it more unusual ,by the looks of it,the poor dog could have died from more sinister methods , but I can’t tell for sure and how it even ended up near the car in the first place either ,so I’m sort of stumped as to what to do....

Given that all dogs now have to be microchipped, maybe give the Gardai a call? or the spca? Get some professional guidance?

We had a similar situation lately, only it was for a cat who got hit by a car on our road. We didn't want to leave it where it was, for obvious reasons, but we also had no idea who owned it. We actually rang the vet where we bring our dog, and they suggested the SPCA or, if we were able, we could bring the cat up to them and they'd contact the owner.

We ended up going up with the cat, and they scanned the microchip and called the owner. I think the SPCA will do the same, however they may be able to come out and collect the dog.

If the rspca are called to collect the dog, they could have a vet test for poisoning if there no other obvious signs of death. But could be many things of course, the reason why the dog died, but there somebody in the area missing there dog and if it is chipped which is compulsory they might find the owner and they may be an id tag in a collar if the dog is wearing one.
