I have an oil fired boiler and am looking at this one for a replacement.

    https://www.mcdonoghdirect.ie/42-x-18-indirect-insulated-copper-cylinder-c2x23893532

Am a bit confused with the way it is being described.

    What is 42 x 18?

It must surely be in inches, but what does 18 refer to? Would it be the circumference, the diameter or the radius?

Obviously it is 42 inches in height.

First time I have had to buy one of these and so am unfamiliar with the usual system for measuring copper cylinders.......

    Diameter less the insulation

If you existing copper cylinder has failed, due to perhaps having hard water causing corrosion, etc, replace it with a stainless steel cylinder.

I have recently replaced my copper cylinder with an insulated stainless steel one. 30 x 18 was €160
