Length of vetting for Garda Civilian roles

Just wondering for civilians appointed to the Gardai, how long does vetting take? I thought I saw that for some CO’and EO’s it can take up to eight weeks or more, or maybe I got that wrong/confused.
I previously recall Garda vetting was a simple, fill in a form, and get notification approximately a week to ten days later stating that all was back, and clear.
To all the CO’s and EO’s in AGS, what additionally occurs?
Is it similar to full-time Garda recruitment whereby you meet someone senior in a station nearby?
And most importantly, how long did it take?
    Thanks!

Took about 14 weeks for me, for garda civilian role. There are additional strands apart from evetting which only takes 7-10 days generally.

Mine took 11-12 weeks but I have heard of it taking up to 26 weeks depending on the individual

What you are referring to above is vetting under the National Vetting Bureau Acts 2012-2016. This applies to individuals who will have contact with children or vulnerable people in the course of their work or activity.

The vetting process for new employees of AGS (in addition to the Prison Service, Defence Forces and similar bodies) is more extensive and involves a number of additional checks, of which e-vetting is one strand. The length of this varies according the candidate, the countries they have lived or worked in, etc.

    Hi Kate, Crunchymomma and Ravelleman,
Many thanks for responding, just logged in again.
Totally understand why the process is so extensive, and thanks for underlining the timelines involved, 11 and 14 weeks is quite some time.
So it’s in the following order.
    -Standard Garda Vetting
    -Extra vetting
Then, I presume its two X reference checks?
And one last thing, is there any sort assessment by a chief medical officer?
    Thanks in advance.

You mean depending on who is doing the vetting!!!! Yes I would agree with this.

There was no medical assessment in 2017. Would safely assume that hasn't changed.

out of interest what are these other strands that the AGS vetting looks into? The extra vetting?

No medical - you just have to sign a declaration that is oddly worded. It basically puts the onus on you to say if you're fit for the position or not, although they will ask during your reference check what your sickness record had been like in the last 12 months.

To answer the OP - 15 weeks in my case.
