Do you have to notify department if horses grazing your land? The horses are not owned by me and only one will be grazing? I know your supposed to notify department if you have a few chickens ao surely something about horses?

I think it's supposed to be the council. what they can do is put a notice up stating that the horse will be removed to the pound in x no of days, this gives them a chance to remove themselves.

It looks like the op has given the owner of the horse permission to let the horse on his land so no need to report to council,if the horse is not going to be there permanently,I wouldn't bother informing the deptt for 1 horse

Anyone with a horse should have a premesis number that is given to you by the DVO office. In most cases the premesis number allocated to you will be your existing herd number.

I don't think you'll get any wrath from the powers that be for allowing grazing for sure, but I would suggest to the owner that he has his own premesis registered, and that he has the horse insured for any third party damage that it may do, for instance if it broke out to the public road and caused an accident.
