Why do they keep bringing back flop reality shows?

Saw an ad for Shipwrecked on E4 earlier. Y'know, the trashy reality show that was axed in the late 00s due to rubbish viewing figures. The original Love Island suffered the same fate but they brought it back anyway. Why do they keep rebooting reality shows that no one watched in the first place? What's next, Celebrity Wrestling?

Cheap crap is cheap to produce.

The general populace need to be told what they have to enjoy, otherwise Coronation St, Fair (Sh)ity, Eastenders and all that other eye rot wouldn't still be on the tv. People love to talk about other people, and what better than to put a group of dopes together, in this situation to see if they could survive a shipwreck, with the hopes that someone will do something scandalous for the world to see and talk about non-stop for the next week.

Most of the ones watching don't care if it's rebooted

They just switch on and open their bag of crisps or whatever, vegetate in front of the screen.

Because it's a lot easier to reboot an old show versus creating a new one and coming up with new ideas for how it's going to work.

Just look at the success of a lot of movies these days. A lot of them are part of a series such as the Marvel movies, deadpool, Fast and Furious, Misson Impossible and many others. While the movies in the series are not the exact same every time. It's easier for the studio directors/producers to follow on from a previous movie rather than create a completely new movie that doesn't follow on from an earlier movie in the series.

Also, a lot of the people watching now won't remember the original series so it's easier than coming up with something new- like Love Isalnd which seemed to be mainly watched by teenagers.

Even the new stuff is mostly old stuff rehashed

It.must come down to business, why waste money developing a new product when the existing will sell

The format for the new Shipwrecked is EXACTLY the same as the 2006-2009 series: a battle between two Islands, Sharks and Tigers.

Reality shows and endless food and property wankery goes down well in this market.

You joking? Love Island's been breaking records left, right and centre with the viewing figures they've gotten, through the roof. It's been headline news, they were talking about some of the biggest viewing figures ITV 2 ever recorded, it was one of the most successful tv shows of all time. They said noone would have imagined these figures.

Exactly. But the original Love Island in the 00s? The one with famous ish people? That only lasted two series before being axed. No one would have imagined those figures, indeed. Doesn't change the fact that it's a rubbish programme though.

To be fair I didn't remember the original Shipwrecked (2000/2001) and only knew of it when I looked up the show on Wikipedia, whereas I do recall the 2006 reboot quite well. The 2019 series will be the THIRD reboot of the show.

What do you mean "Exactly."?

The whole point of this thread is why are they bringing them back "when noone watched them in the first place". Clearly people are watching Love Island now, so I guess they know something you don't?

"Exactly".... like it's not that you try to explain the counterpoint, but you say "Exactly." as if that somehow reinforced your point. Please try to make some sense.

I've seen people say "exactly" in similar positions before to good counterpoints against their argument and it's very obnoxious. You don't get to say "exactly" unless something is proving your point. That is not the case here in any possible way.

I want Ibiza Uncovered back with the original cast. See if Kez and Sam are still out there and if they ever got a job.

Look how popular the reboot has been and look how UNpopular the original Love Island was. I guess it got second time lucky.
By exactly I meant you made a good point regarding the reboot. It's had success the original could only ever dream of.

Oh I see. Just how you said exactly it sounded like you were saying it confirmed your original point. It kind of answers your question - because sometimes they do really well.

At this rate maybe they should bring back Treasure Island, Celebrity Farm and Cabin Fever! ;)
No RTE I'm kidding, that would not be good.

Television content is moving further and further away from me all the time.
And I'm not the only one. We are many.

The only one I actually miss, is The Salon, from way back in the early 00's.

Teenagers from the early to mid 2000s had a different sort of taste going on, reality shows were still new in the early 2k's and people not so sure about them. I didn't watch them ever when I was a teenager 10 years back. Today I still don't watch them but teens today are not the same as 10 years ago. It's regular TV to them. All this singing and dancing TV reality crap drilled into their brains.

Bring back Jackass, I'd watch new shows all over again. They never gets old, but they probably won't ever make new ones because teens were mirroring the stunts back then, me included! And were getting injured, so I doubt they would remake such a show with dangerous stunts like that. They would rather make a show with some fat tart on stage in front of judges trying to sing and making a complete bongo of herself.

There's basically fúck all worth watching on telly - never really has been.
But sure as night follows day, fill the screen with hot scantily clad people and people will watch it.
Telly's been popular since shortly after WW2 - 70 years give or take. Countless billions of euros and millions of man hours have been given over to making shows to go on it and there's at best a handful or maybe a couple of dozen worldwide if i'm being really generous that you could call good.
People will watch any auld shíte!

Yeah Wogan, God rest him, used to always say that, there was NEVER actually anything on the telly. Never.

Those were the days! Wasn't there a Malia and/or Corfu Uncovered too?

They had The Villa as well which was very like Love Island where they sent 4 girls and 4 guys with each having a match unbeknownst to them in there.
One episode had 2 girls stripping a passed out fella ... that will go down well if it's shown again!

I'm with you topper. It's a steaming pile of shíte!

Bar various bits of sport here and there my telly is basically a radio with pictures, I just use it to have some sound going on in the background.

    How about a compromise?...

X Factor should be scrapped now and replaced with something else, maybe a celebrity version?
