Maynooth exit is planned for the medium term

As somebody who works in the Business Campus just off the motorway Maynooth J7 is an absolute disaster.

On the town side there isn't a roundabout at all meaning the eastbound exit from the M4 and both right turns off the overpass have to cross traffic. It causes huge congestion in the morning and dangerous driving conditions as cars and truck try to edge across the road.
On the far side the roundabout is way too small for the volume of traffic and the fact the business campus and the hardware centre on the other side are both on the roundabout makes for awful traffic problems in the evening and huge queues from the Straffan side in the mornings.
The whole exit needs to be completely scrapped and redesigned. What's annoying is that there probably is the space to do the redesign (especially on the town side) but just no will to do it.

Too busy adding more traffic lights!

The original "redesign" involved closing the junction entirely and moving it to the Rathcoffey Road which would involve nuking the football club along with being generally insane.

    That's a 15+ year wishlist idea.

The short-term plans involve no change to the M4 junction; but a C-ring on the Eastern side that should drive some traffic - particularly from the North of the town - towards the Celbridge Interchange. Definitely anyone who lives in a Moyglare Road estate should find it vastly quicker to use J6 than go through the town centre and entire Straffan Road and its eleventy traffic lights to J7.

However, more traffic joining at J6 now will just add to the morning delays on the M4 - three lanes to J7 is needed urgently.

Isn't the plan with Maynooth to move the junction to halfway between the current one and Kilcock this taking all the University traffic oit of the town.

Check Kildare Dev Plan and Maynooth Local Area Plan for official policy.

For those not familiar with it Maynooth Local Area Plan defines what type of development permitted where + reservations for future roads/links within LAP zone. http://www.kildare.ie/CountyCouncil/Planning/DevelopmentPlans/LocalAreaPlans/MaynoothLAP2013-2019incorporatingAmendmentNo1/

    See map 1, 6 etc.

If it's not in that document, then land/routes are vulnerable to planning applications. You must lobby Maynooth MD Councillors/make submissions to KCC during next LAP consultation if you think additional provision required within Maynooth LAP borders.
