What use is the thanks option, I thank people myself now and again.

But is it really necessary ?

Many uses, one for me is that it lets you know if a long post is worth reading.

Okay, I have read that bolded part enough times with a squint and a crinkle in the middle of my forehead!

I would prefer laughing and fist shaking options in addition to thanking options. Rolling eyes, face palming and finger wagging options would be great too.

I've nothing against it, but I don't think it's necessary.

More than anything, it tells you who's of the same opinion, but it does nothing for me.

Normally to show agreement. Thankfully it has no other bearing so the place hasn't turned into Reddit.

That reminds me, I used to use thanks as a way of backing up people who made dodgy, possibly ban-worthy posts.

It's good to know why people thank post's, but funny emogies would be better....
