The true meaning of Christmas

Just back from an all night mass and I am wiped. It started off a tame affair with a few readings from the New Testament but after the wine started flowing Father Johnson started to go Old Testament. Shouting at us all telling us we are going to hell for using Tinder. Telling us Nostradamus predicted the world would end when men marry men. Father Byrne had to take over then but he didn't let the energy die, he converted it to joy. These lads are miracle workers

The Church is supposed to be closed for renovations so the whole thing was a bit on the down low. On reflection, the scaffolding was always going to be a source of trouble but the paramedics reckon Father Thomas hasn't broken anything. He'll be in bits when the blood of Christ wears off tomorrow though. I ate so much communion I reckon I'll be on the jacks for the day.

Good times. I reckon that's me spiritually fulfilled for another year.

Anyone else got some good mass stories for the day that's in it?

I went Sunday so that'll cover me. Too many hymns in Christmas/Easter/etc mass and make it far too long.

I bet Father Ultan Crosby was involved here. He gives good mass.

The true meaning of Christmas is wherever you can find simple contentment. For my part, that springs from spending the day with family. Only time of year we're assembled under the one roof.

You're talking about the roof of the church right?

I don't think the church would approve of Nostradamus.

I think Father Johnson has been upset with the progressive direction of the church under the new pope and has looked outside official teachings for guidance.

I would not be particularly religious but I do love christmas mass. The atmosphere. The music. The pagentry.

It is a mid-winter break from labour, a socially selected means of surviving the harshest time of the year.

Oh yeah, it worked out well that Jesus was born at the same time.

It's not the harshest time of the year though. Depending on your definition of harsh. January and February are statistically much colder.

Baileys coffee for breakfast and ripping your fingers apart on endless LOL doll wrapping..

the true meaning of Christmas to celebrate Santy's birthday.

that Jesus was born at the same time.

Now there's a fib that got way out of hand!

Harshest time = Winter. Need to go in to Jan well fed.

No way you need to go into February and March well fed.

Preferably, but you can only take one break. May as well have it around the time of least sun light (most labouring was done outdoors).

Was at mass last night, we all always go on Christmas Eve. Great atmosphere, lovely music and big crowd as always (30mins early and still couldn’t get a seat though I stand at mass normally so no big deal).

Always funny when the priest tries to make the most of the once yearly crowd to give his sales pitch for the rest of the year :D

The last time I was at mass, Jesus said it.

That's it for the a la Carte Catholics for another year.

The true meaning of Christmas me hoop. Mid winter celebrations were hijacked and made all about JC. Anyone who's not religious is allowed to enjoy however they like, even if it's known as Christmas.

Let's just hope we don't start saying happy holidays, for (non religious meaning) Christ's sake.

Hey, Father whatsisface only sees most of you once a year, so he has a lot of Catholic Guilt to cram in to a single sermon. The OP need not be surprised that he pulled out the big guns. You do it to yourself, you do ...

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

All the greed and materialism these days at Christmas, like shopping is the new religion, sure in another few hours shops will start to open for the sales.
People have forgotten the true meaning of Christmas - the birth of Santa.
