Quick Hive Thermostat Question

    Guys,

Just about to order a kit for my parents.

I ordered and installed mine and all perfect. Love it.
But I know my system, 2 zone etc

My parents have upgraded boiler etc but still only 1 zone. So heating on means water and roads are heating unless they turn the manual valve in the hot press for water only.

    Question is :

Hive order screen. Do I order the one with separate controls (with separate water tank) and just leave the hot water zone/circuit empty when installing or do I order the combo boiler version which I assume only has the one power button and one zone control and then the unit works and heats what ever the manual valve in the hot press is turned to.

    Thanks.

Combi (single channel) version would suit what they currently have.
But you could install the dual other and just not wire up the hot water (if they intend having a motorised valve installed instead of the level valve in the near future)

    Perfect. Thank you.

I have the same arrangement and installed a single receiver. I am very pleased with it but sorry I did not go for the heating and water option.
I plan to upgrade it next year.
I would definitely recommend the heating and hot water version.

When you upgrade, if possible install 3x motorised valves (2 heating zones and 1x hot water zone) and add a dual receiver and additional thermostat to give you a multi zone system. More you can zone the house the more efficiently you can use your heating.

Thanks DGOBS. I was thinking of just one motorized valve to replace manual one in hot press to control hot water. However your suggestion is much better.
    Thanks again, cerco

Sorry to thread bump, few hive experts here I think.

Moving back to hive from nest, I reckon nest has ended up costing me a decent chunk more in heating while it's been in for the year.

Three zones, upstairs, downstairs and hot water.

From memory I think the following is what I need.

Was considering the neatamo too but I had a good experience with hive before so . . .

    You will need:
    1x Hive Hub
    2x Hive Thermostats
2x Hive Receivers (1 dual channel and 1 single channel)

What you have i your pic is correct, but I dont see the HUB listed (assume it is with the first kit)

Not so sure this is good price for “used” equipment e.g. the multi zone package is £99 new from Argos UK. Check Hive site als as suggested by DGOBS.

I have a Climote installed, new Gas /electric supplier offering a Hive are they compatible or does the Hive do the same functions as the Climote? Thanks

How many zones are you presently controlling with the Climote?

Hi ,Two, I have a motorised valve that diverts to Hot water and the Central heating system . They are controlled by a basic Thermostat in the Hall, the Boiler and Climote are in the kitchen. Thanks

OK, so a dual channel Hive can replace your climote.
Your climote panel would go, and be replaced by a Hive receiver, your thermostat in the hall would also be replaced by a Hive thermostat.

Both do essentially the same job, but afaik, climote has a yearly charge for GSM, Hive doesn't, and I find the Hive app is a bit more progressive.
Once Hive is installed, you will also then be able to self-install any of the other Hive products.

You can download the Hive app and play with the demo mode if you want to look some more.

Pardon me - but it seems to me that you're ALL talking about systems much more expensive than is necessary. Once the market developed for Remotely-Operated domestic utilities, several entrepeneurs started to marked phone-operated sockets and suggested that customers could use them to turn on lights or a radio within the home to fool would-be burglars etc.
Since central-heating boilers use tiny amounts of ELECTRICAL power, just such a socket could carry a plug connected to the power-input of a typical boiler - and thus [with the boiler-controls set permanently to ON] the system could be controlled by the Application on the smart phone. My son got such a remotely-controlled socket for Christmas and it has been running his Central Heating ever since. He sets it ON when he finishes work and it's toasty by the time he gets home
Hive [and others] talk a lot of nonsense about the FLEXIBILITY of their thermostats - but how often does one really want to re-set a room thermostat? A simple [and CHEAP] ON/OFF system is really enough.

That sounds ideal for a really old inefficient system, but when you have for example 3 zones and are linked with thermostats and boiler interlock this is where smart controls work really efficiently and save you money.
