    Hi,

Wife is looking to purchase a new mini cooper S in the new year.
Frankly cannot stand the union jack rear lights, tacky in my mind.

Configuration cost with the extras puts it at 36K, looking to get a bit off.
Cash buyer no trade in, can i expect to get a 5% discount?

Or are discounts only available on finance as there is a kickback to the dealer?
or are discount a no go on minis? might try an persuade an alternative, A Class etc.

    Any advise welcome..thank you

Is there not a pending facelift due on the MINI or did the current model get it already earlier this year?

Regarding finance, I'd negotiate off the on the road price first then introduce how you want to pay for it after that and if there is further discount. One thing I've heard constantly over the years with BMW though is that the dealer margin on the MINI is not huge so expect a hard fight on the discount front.

Definitely wont get any further reductions for paying by cash / bank transfer. Contrary to popular belief, cash is not king

New A class is way ahead with the MBUX system, you certainly wouldnt go wrong there

Would someone going for a Cooper S be swayed into merc by a multimedia system?

A250 automatic petrol in AMG line spec is probably only 5k more than the mini. More powerful and far better spec.

A200 AMG in manual would be cheaper than the mini but a bit less power.

Both really fun cars to drive, a mate has a 16 cooper s and it is really good but personally i prefer the mercedes and the MBUX in the new mercs make them all the better

Quite a bit slower, 9.2 seconds to 60 vs 6.8

Yeah fair point wasn't sure on the 0-60, still though 160bhp in a car that size is loads for most people. Op, would your wife drive hard enough to notice the difference in power or is it just the sporty feel she likes?

Nope, sporty feel, she'd be happy with the copper, however, i said i'd contribute to bring it up to the cooper S if i could borrow it occasionally.

I think this is really comparing Granny's runabout to a go-kart but then I am biased having had 3 Cooper S over the past 10 years.

The A250 is far from grannys run about, its 220bhp! No denying the cooper s is a seriously fun car but im guessing you haven't tried the Mercedes!

Anyway the op mentioned the A class as an alternative

Given the 10k+ price diff between an A250 and a Cooper S, I don’t think they are likely to be in the running! I have driven an A45. But then that’s a completely different story!

Shirley the GTi and R golf are a step above the cooper s, they seem to have a lot more favourable reviews.

Difference is only about 5k though and your in an automatic for that too!

Have not driven the A45 but Was lucky enough to drive a heap of AMG cars for 3 days on a track and on the road last year, unforgettable experience when someone hands you a brand new c63 and a map and says see ya there!
