Do many of ye on here have heat detection collars for the cows? I have seen a few old threads about these but I’m looking for some up to date info on the different systems out there. What systems have ye and the pros and cons of each. Salesmen get hard to listen to after a bit and you can’t beat first hand info from people that have already invested. Herdinsights and scr heatime seem to be leading the way at the minute but I’m still open to all other suggestions. Thanks in advance ðŸ‘

Have sensetime from scr in here, using the tags it’s got health/heat detection/rumination, very impressed with it, the health/heat monitoring side of it are brillant and the herd recording software is very useful.....

What sort of money would you be looking for the 19?

I had the heat time collars. It worked grand when I needed it. I just use tail paint now. Also I found it difficult to put the collars on on my own

It's on 50 heifers, 70 euro per tag and 3000-4000 grand for installation of base-station/wiring etc, you also need a laptop/wifi to run the system

Any particular reason for not using them anymore?! Seems a big spend to only use for a couple of years. Are any of the newer systems any better I wonder?!!

No, had young kids and didn't have time for heat detection. Worked well for me at the time. I sold it on when I didn't need it anymore.

Maintenance cost I think was the main reason.

How long are you supposed to get out of the ear tags and what is the warranty on them?

3 year warranty and approx 5 years, the collar version is crazy money but has longer warranty, looked into cow manger tags from wws who also give 5 years warranty but again are a nice bit dearer then sensetime tag

    Some price

Tin of tail paint 10 euro. Not to knock these systems they do have their place but their are cheaper and simpler ways.

I wouldn't be without now to tell you the truth, absolutle game changer, given the cow type here, also means a relief milker can be got in and your not worrying yourself about missed heats our sick cows going unnoticed, also has calving alert feature that flags cows in distress calving

Do the heifers have to pass the base station or how does it send the signal?

Base-station has a range of 150m, heifers are housed here for breeding with the run off a 4 acre paddock beside shed and handling facilities

Would you say the health monitoring part of it throughout the year is much of a benefit? Or is it mainly heat detection you have it for? All the sales talk will tell you what you want to hear but can’t beat on the ground information

Any issues with battery’s going dead and what happens and at what cost can these be replaced?

Hi looking to invest in a animal health monitoring system for a mixed dairy and pedigree suckler herd. From reading previous posts they seem to be on the market for a few years . Looking to hear from peoples experience good and bad with the different systems and welcome any suggestions. Thanks in advance
