Jaguar xf / Audi a4 / mondeo

I was looking at the xf in bill griffin today. Beautiful car. Had gone there to look at the mondeo and maybe some audi/bmws. My head was certainly turned by the xf and it felt lovely to drive.

My dad is concerned that It could be hard to fix or get parts should it have problems because it's not so common. Is this the case? Would you usually save a lot of money in the long run with something more common like the mondeo or Audi a4?

My budget started at 10k but has crept up to 13k to accommodate the xf! What do you car folk think? I don't know much about cars, drove a 07 mondeo until it died last week, was a grand car to drive. I have a friend who has had little or no problems with his Audi a4 for the last 8 years which sounds appealing, similar with a friend who has a 3 series bmw.

I don't particularly like the look of most other saloons like the avensis, Passat etc. Any advice welcome.

Getting parts won't be a problem reliability wise it doesn't seem great and that is only from reading online. I do have a friend that has one and has no problem with it. Maybe he's just lucky. The big hit I'd imagine will be depreciation if you do plan on selling it in a couple of years versus an Audi or BMW.

Have a look at the Volvo S60. SE rather than R line as the SE is a much nicer car inside and tends to have more toys. 13k will buy a very nice example such as this:

Bill Griffin,...maybe look at a few other dealers before you pull the trigger.

The XF, A4 and Mondeo are not in the same class as each other despite costing similar money to buy second hand. And as such each of these cars is going to have different running costs. The XF is going to cost a good bit more to run than the other two. Jaguar parts and servicing are more expensive and you might not find a Jaguar specialist mechanic on your doorstep which could mean your having to use a main dealer for servicing and maintenance which will be costly. So just remember that while these cars can be bought for Mondeo money a few years down the line doesn't mean they can be maintained for Mondeo money.

I very nearly bought an XF and it’s a fantastic drive, a lot more common lately on the roads as far as I can see. Service is costly though and that ultimately put me off.

    Really nice cars though

I've pretty much decided against for same reasons, if I was loaded I wouldnt hesitate cause I think its a beautiful car. I think i'll wait until next week to see if there's a flurry of cars added in the new year

    Difficult, no. Expensive, probably.

XF is a completely different class of car to Mondeo or A4

Worse colour? If I replace my own S60 with another it will be in that colour. I think it is lovely.
