Well its not even the new year yet and already I have seen my first 191 reg car. 191-OY-1 sitting outside a dealer.

Anyone else seen a 191 reg car yet?

    Peace and long life.

Is it not a bit early for 191 cars?

I would have thought you can get licence plates made up to say anything. Doesn’t mean it’s a legally registered 191 car.

It's not a road legal number plate. Shannon would not register a 191 car until Jan 1st. I think even the first 100 numbers of the year are automatically reserved so even if you could register it now you would not get 191 OY 1 unless it was a government/public vehicle of some sort. In any event it's just a display plate by a garage advertising new cars for 2019 registration.

I think all numbers are fair game nowadays?

I thought they still reserved the first few even if not used by Government?

Edit: Just ran a few number plates through motorcheck and it seems that 181L1 doesn't exist but 181l2, etc does and are random makes.

Nothing is reserved unless paid for and booked

Some county regs have been reserved for mayoral cars, etc. For example 181L1 and 182L2 are both showing as not available so it looks like they were automatically reserved but never used.

Usually 1 is reserved for the Mayor but they don't get a new car every year

Look, we all know at this stage that the first car of the year shows up in Portlaoise.
