Am I right in thinking if a car isn't insured nobody would be insured to test drive it even with their own insurance.

New car on the way but not panic selling the old one, would like to be abel to test drive the old one, do I need to take out a second policy until it's sold, the insurance company won't allow you to be the main driver on 2 cars with the one insurance policy.

The buyer will need Insurance if they're driving, with their own 'driving of other cars' part of their insurance policy.

Do you mean buyer test drive your old car, he can test drive under third party extension with some companys not all, even if car has no insurance of its own,
my RSA policy allows me to do this.

That is very much dependant on the policy, my previous policy explicitly stated that in order for me to be covered for third part on other cars that car needed to have valid insurance in the state by a person who did not reside in the same residence as me.

My current policy doesn't state anything in the T&C's about the third party car having to be insured so it's very much on a policy by policy basis.

Be very careful with allowing someone else drive your car on their policy - at best they will be insured third party only and if there is an accident they will walk off leaving you with a crashed car you can't sell.
