LG TV

    Hello,

Just bought a 43" LG TV as an additional TV to a Samsung. Th Samsung serves me well with its multi-satellite features. I can tune and keep Freesat channels plus add other satellites and store them separately. With the LG when I want to set up other satellites, cannot keep Freesat and I end up with one huge list of channels with no way of separating them under the satellite name. This was the one feature I couldn't check out in the shop before buying the TV, otherwise I am pleased with the TV performance although I have no All4 app as I have on the Samsung. I wrote to LG but got no reply. Can anyone help?.

    :) Thanks.

Unfortunately there seems to be some sort of geo blocking in place for the All4 app on LG TVs. Not sure why this is but Channel 4 and LG have been unable to help. Strange as All4 works perfectly on Sky, Android, PC, etc.

It is not geoblocking. Those tvs carry the freesat brand and because of the dispute between freesat and c4, the All4 app was removed from their platforms. It must be very annoying for LG as they are caught in the middle.

I presume side loading it is no good either?
You could buy a really cheap Android box and plug it into the tv?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,818 ✭✭✭Tigerandahalf

The All4 app works on chromecast.

    Thanks for all the replies,
All4 works perfectly on the Samsung TV, Samsung Tablet and Android phone, way back C4 put up notice that 4All at the time would now be available to ROI residents, following some right issues being resolved. It wasn't on the Samsung when I bought it, but was added much later so it really must be down to the TV make
Any comments on the Satellite issue?

The country must to set to UK for Freesat to work

Regarding other Satellites, as far as I know Samsung TVs support Diseqc. LG must not

The All 4 app isn't available on LG TVs, as already said you can Chromecast it from your phone etc.

    Thanks for that,

I have no problem with Freesat, but with the LG its either it or other satellites, cannot retain Freesat setup and tune other satellites as well
The LG has all the motor software - Diseqc and USALS, Satellite list etc. its the tuning/programming software that sucks.
Why did LG bother to include positioning software in that when its used there's no way to store the channels into a separate lists for each satellite. I ended up with hundreds of channels in one list having tuned in Sats at 28.3, 19.2 and 13 East.
Thought I would copy each satellite list of channels into the favourite lists, but these only allow a set number of channels, not even enough for all the UK channels when tuned in outside of Freesat setup :( Looks like should have bought another Samsung!

Thank you so much for this post! I had my LG TV set to Ireland and didn’t realise it has freesat built in. I spent an hour earlier today downloading the FTA channel list, downloading software to rearrange the list to my laptop, working on it then reloading it onto the TV. I needn’t have bothered!

Now with Freesat I have a much better EPG, and the channels are arranged a lot better.

It may not be actual geoblocking but it is something of a similar vein as using a VPN the app works fine on the TV.

I have dns set up on mine and can get the iplayer but the All4 app won't load giving an error code.

You guys don't seem to understand the whole idea of Freesat is to be plug and play (idiot proof) so if you mess up the channels it fixes itself. What you are trying to do is have automatic tuning but to your parameters. With enigma you can have a personalised bouquet of channels. Freesat dictates it's own playlist. If memory serves you can hide/delete channels but not rearrange them.

I was rearranging them on FTA rather than Freeview.

You need a satellite dish, freesat should be there once you select uk as your country.

got one of these lg uk6300plb tellys, i have a dish, and the lnb(inverto from satworld.ie) that came with it never worked, til i found an old quad sky lnb on a dish that had been removed , that worked fine until i asked my neighbour help me set up and he placed the bracket way up the wall i couldnt reach it to adjust, also the arm on the bracket was not long enough to let this 60cm dish turn in enough to receive the astra satellites. now i dont know if the lnb is still working or not , as the lg tv shows zero signal strength or quality. . also i need to get new cable. any advice would be good. thanks.

other than this, all the other features of the tv are grand, no idea how to reduce the soap opera effect , maybe i need the magic remote.

I suggest you pay a professional to set up the dish correctly.
It will be so much easier in the long run.

Regarding the LNB ..... ask the 'professional' to test it .... it might be usable.

Just setting a new lg tv up... one question please:

If you select uk as the region to get the freesat epg, do you then lose rte player etc from the smart services? Not a deal breaker but just wondering!

    Cheers

No you shouldn't lose RTE player, I haven't on mine which I've set to UK for Freesat EPG.

I think there is actually a separate menu option that allows you to set a region for apps.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,130 ✭✭✭gussieg

In order to get saorview i had to change back to ireland as region. it picked up all the stations in uk mode, but wouldnt display them.

    bummer.
not to worry i do have a 4k firestick so hadnt really planned to use the smart capabilities too much. amazon prime netflix and youtube still work fine anyway.

Are you able to get the BBC/ITV channels in HD ?

I bought a 50" LG and pixilation issues with these HD channels when connected directly to sat dish.

Kinda defeats the purpose of a 4K tv if it can't pick up full HD channels.

Absolutely no problem picking up BBC HD channels directly from the inbuilt sat tuner. ITV1 is HD too but not the rest of the ITV channels (the HD versions are not free to air). Channel 4 HD and Channel 5 HD also there.

or your satellite, cables or lnb

No issues when i use a set top box thought and signal quality is 100%, very strange

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,144 ✭✭✭mollser

All done, set to uk for freesat, works perfectly. Bit of tuning top put saorview in order, but a much easier task than doing the uk channels.

    Irish smart apps work perfectly.

Have also set rte1 as shortcut no. 1, and bbc1 as shortcut no.2 for very efficient changing between Irish and UK tv. Great work by lg!

    Cheers

Channel 4 HD was removed from Freesat in February 2018. SD version only available.

Had a look at some 4k on YouTube and it looks great but then again I'm coming from a 10 year old plasma

<snip> just read the opening post! Ignore

The music channels need to come back to freesat, not being able to separately tune in fta channels and keep freesat on lg is a big negative point. No issues in Samsung's with this!

1080i (also known as Full HD or BT.709) is an abbreviation referring to ...
