Solid fuel stove..... smoke????

    Hi there.
We have a solid fuel stove and over the last few weeks we have had some problems with smoke bellowing out from around the door area and from the sides too.
We have noticed the room is covered in dust from it and even the other rooms seem very dusty all around the stove is very dusty even on days the stove isn't being used.
We have given up trying to use the stove now as the whole room fills with smoke and we end up with the windows and doors open.
I've rang a few places to see if we can get someone to come out but given the time of year it's proving difficult.
The chimney has been swept so it's not that.
My other half thought it was down to windy weather but I know last year in worse weather we had no issues.
Hoping someone can point me in right direction if there is anything we can do ourselves.
    Thanks

Sounds as the seals on the doors are gone or the door warped. After a while if the stove gets too hot or the wrong material is used the seal and hinge can cause a gap as the door warps (that looks like cord inside the door).
My uncle had the same problem. I changed my uncles cord on the stove and that worked. Bought new cord and glue. Waited the time to dry and everything was sorted.
There is company in NI that supplies parts for most stoves. Use a search engine and type in stove parts and they will come up for you.
Just have a look at your stove first and see if the cord has gone thread bare and check the hinges on it. Or you might need a new door.

Also there is a damper on the stove that can crack and it is possible there is a draw of air from the chimney causing you problems. It is either at the back inside the stove(oblong plate) of the damper underneath is broken or open too much.

Be aware of carbon monoxide poisoning, personally I wouldn’t use it till fixed

Thanks so much for your reply I noticed the cord does look pretty bare so will try that first. Fingers crossed it works.

You can get the cord and glue kit in woodies for about €20 I think. Did it on mine over the summer.

Thanks so much luckily there is a stove supplier not too far from me so I picked up some rope yesterday fitted it and thankfully it's done the job perfectly.
    I really appreciate your advice

Good. Give the door a brush and clean. Make sure you wait for itto dry. Then glue the cord. Just make sure you give more than the time needed for the glue to cure/dry.

If a stove leaks smoke when the rope is damaged then thats also a sign that the chimney needs sweeping or there is another problem with the chimney.

All that should really happen if the door seal is damaged is that the stove burns too hot because of too much air getting to it.
