Might be better suited to Dublin forum. Sad to see so close to Christmas. Tough old industry that.
The Jo’Burger restaurant group controlled by businessman Joe Macken, which operated from at least six Dublin premises, has gone into liquidation.

The group has confirmed that all of the group’s Dublin outlets, including those trading as Jo’Burger, Crackbird, Skinflint, Bar Guiseppe and Hey Donna, are to close with immediate effect.

It's not the first time one their burgers led to liquidation.

Horrible news for the staff so close to Christmas, expensive time of year and all.

Disappointed (and quite surprised) to hear this. Hey Donna was a handy auld spot that I'd enjoyed the few times I've went.

I've been in crackbird once and never heard of the rest of them. Sad to hear so many jobs lost

It's a shame about the jobs. Bu no loss when it comes to Jo Burger. Had the misfortune of eating there once. What a pretentious pile of $hit.

I'm surprised a restaurant or any business in the retail/hospitality sector would close so close to Christmas. I would have thought they would try and get the extra cashflow in over the Christmas and then close up in January. They seemed to last quite long for a restaurant especially a modern hip place as most of those types of restaurants close after around a year or two.

You know, I enjoy a burger, I’ve lived in Dublin for most of the time that Jo’Burger has been in operation and I never got around to going there. I’ve looked at the menu and some of the combinations were really off-putting. I believe there was one involving banana?

I think I like my burgers simple. And I like burgers that you can pick up with one hand. The burgers in Bunsen, for example.

The comic book menus mentioned in reviews and by friends also put me off a bit. Silly thing probably, but there’s a lot of choice out there!

Amazed that the media didn't delve more on this at the time. When a restaurant goes bust just before the two busiest weeks of the year there's more afoot than the vague statement referencing "challenging trading conditions".

Thankfully The Phoenix took the time to look past the press release: his landlord had him in the High Court over fire safety, he owed rent & rates and has a history of difficulties with rent. Full story in the latest Phoenix (with Robbo on the over)

I went to the one in Smithfield last year. My burger was rock hard. I'd asked for medium and was told that they only cook them one way. That way was apparently rock hard. My friend spent the next day getting sick.

I worked next to it and none of my coworkers went there.

I'd been in the one on the south side years ago and the food was lovely. I think they'd just lowered their standards over the years.

burgers that actually weren't that nice and were twice the price of somewhere like wowburger which is a very decent burger for the money.

crackbird wasn't that tasty the one time I tried it either.

hopefully some new places will go into those spaces and bring back the jobs lost.

suspected that not paying rent was the over-riding factor here.

Crackbird seemed like a pure novelty. Odd chicken wing flavours that were very expensive.

You would go there once and that would be it.

The one time I was in Wowburger I thought it was awful. Was expecting a decent burger spot but ended up in something akin to McDonalds.

Never did go to Jo'Burger in the end. Same as a few others, was in Crackbird once for the novelty and then never again.

I was in Crackbird about two weeks before it closed. It was great fried chicken. However the place was half empty on a Saturday night. Not sustainable when paying huge rents down that end of town.

I prefer Bunsen. Myself overall but the wow on Wicklow st is good imo. Pint, burger and chips for under 15 euro with no wait for text malarky a la Bunsen. It's not fine dining but does the job

Thought Jo burger it was great when they first opened as places considered hipster were quite rare at the time.

That said had it again 2 years ago and it wasn't the same don't know if it declined or if simply wasn't keeping up with all the new places and competition but it was definately expensive for what you got.

Also the banana + chili one was my favorite :p

    I like unusual flavour combinations.
