Hi folks, paintwork is starting to peel from my car, I'm not exactly sure what's causing it, but I suspect it's from rainwater. Any advice in how to deal with it? Thank you

It's probably the clear coat and not the paint. Nothing much to do other than a repaint

Yea I'd say so, is there anything I can do to reduce it spreading, as it is so, and fairly quickly to?

Red is a bugger for this.

Look at all the Toyotas going around that look brand new from around 2006,2007.

Toyota recalled them and re sprayed.

Sun light damages the clear coat and even worse stone chips or scratches.

I've been waxing it from time to time, but obviously it isn't working, I'm not sure I'd bother respraying at this stage, probably can't afford it anyway, but shur the cars too old for that now. Thanks folks

Why would you be bothered repainting a 13 year old Mégane? Just hoof it on till it dies.
Repainting would cost multiples of the cars value.

The 05 Megane could be a future classic.

Red paint particularly can be easily sun damaged. Opel cars often suffer badly in this respect.

Have you owned the car from new? Sounds like it was poorly repaired at some stage. Red paint will fade but peeling is not normal.

no i havent, but i know the original owner, and as far as im aware, its never been crashed, but im not 100% on that. the peeling is happening near the bonnet and on the rear door, it seems like its where water is collecting. i ll try post pics at some stage. i thought the bonnet issues maybe coming from some sort of spillage during maintenance, but now im not sure since its also happening on the rear.

    No.
The constantly failing window regulators (which Irish Renault wouldn't replace even though it was a known problem)
    Failing wishbones
Prematurely wearing rear wheels due to the back end being misaligned.
    Failing coils

Regulators are a ****, all mine are wrecked, mechanic showed me how to flush them out with contact cleaner, tis doing the job, but they ll all probably eventually fail. Coil went as well, first nct failed on rear axle alignment

I have the phone number of a guy who specialises in Renault regulators. Very reasonable.

    PM me if interested.

Don't think I'm too bother at this stage about them, flushing them out with contact cleaner is currently working, as having far less hassle with them since doing that, one window never worked though, been told regulator and loom needs to be replaced, cars too old for that now, but thanks very much anyway
