Another answer and a method relatively overlooked here in the UK, this could be done would be using a Smart Splitter and an SCR (Single Cable Router) compatible LNB or satellite multi-switch amplifier and SCR enables satellite receiver, the majority of new Sky+HD boxes come equipped with this facility accessed within the hidden installer menu. The problem with doing it this way is that you would either have to replace your LNB for a model not commonly used here in the UK and install a Smart Splitter, costs are adding up here already and for communal TV systems you would have to replace the TV multi-switch amplifiers for models which allow the SCR function. Although this may be viable for upgrading single feed communal TV systems it would not be usually be viable for domestic situations. Either way although this method would work, it still wouldn’t be as simple as just “splitting the cable”.

Am I reading this correctly, that from the hidden installer menu this box is able to use a Unicable LNB?
TBH, I found the above very very difficult to read, and even more difficult to understand.

Anyone care to put this in simple English for me? :)

I think, though am not sure, that the frequencies used by Sky for SCR are different to the frequencies used by Unicable.

If you look at the image of the Triax TMDS42C on

    http://www.triax.uk/products/satellite/multiswitches/dscr-multiswitches/tmds-42-c-dscr-add-on

you'll see the Sky UK UBs and frequencies listed on the left while the EN50494 / 50607 UBs and frequencies used by Unicable on the right.

Therefore if you connect a Sky box direct to a Unicable LNB I believe it will not work. Although you have both I believe so you could test and prove me wrong!

    Thanks for that link.
It seems none of the Sky Bands correspond to the Unicable LNB frequencies ... although a couple are close.

I don't think it is worth the trouble dismantling the present system just to see if it would work ...... even if it did I would not use it. :D, as I have a couple of standard feeds from a second LNB one of which feeds the Sky+HD box.

Thanks again for the info ;)

It's somewhat confusing. Looking at this Inverto programmable LNB it lists the default 32 UBs it uses. I'm not sure if the UBs are configurable, the bandwidth seems to be but I am unclear if you can change the frequencies.

I had a look at the installer set up and it is only the two bands that can be selected ...... presently set to 14 and 17 I think.
No sign of any way to get lower than that (alter frequency).

I am unsure what the programming of the Inverto does ..... have forgotten :)

On my Sky DRX595 you can change the Channel 1 and 2 in the Sky Installer menu. The channel options are from 01 to 31 for both 1 and 2. Even though it's a single tuner box it shares the same software as the recording boxes.

The issue is whether Sky's channel 14 (for example) corresponds with the Unicable UB14. I guess it could be tested by trial and error but it would be more for curiosity than anything.

Sorry, I meant to 'get deeper' into the Channel to see what frequency it related to and edit it if possible.
Yes the two channels here can also be set between 1 and 30 or so.

This is my first foray into the installer menu. :D
