Diesel->EV government scrappage scheme ever likely?

Back in 2010 we scrapped our aging petrol for a diesel, with the 5000 scrappage making it affordable. Given the wrist slapping of the govt lately for their inaction on climate change, does anyone think it's possible they will do similar to get people out of older diesels? I appreciate that there are some grants etc in place already, but thinking more of a simple, straight scrappage scheme.

I've not heard any mention of anything so far. With all the special interest groups and government "task forces" looking at the emissions issues, you'd think if it were going to happen in the near future it would already be on the table

I think there is a large cohort in the government (who I would agree with on this matter) that it would not be the best political strategy to try and penalise people out of the diesel cars that they incentivised them into in the first place.

Well in fact there already is!

There is a €10k subsidy on new EVs. That's far better than any scrappage offer ever was. And then there are some manufacturers who give you a scrappage allowance on top of that

Two regular posters on this forum both bought a Hyundai Ioniq EV in the last few weeks, which costs €40k on the road before incentives. With the €10k subsidy from the government, Hyundai also topped that up with a €4k scrappage allowance so these posters paid just €26k for the car on the road.
