Hi all due to collect new nissan leaf white sv in jan and dealer contacted me to inform that he had an sv premium in the same colour would I be interested in upgrading, originally I just wanted to get into a new leaf for as cheap as possible and I had heard smaller 16 inch alloys were more efficient, it costs 1300 for the upgrade and there's seems to be a lot of extra kit 1. What is your opinion on the differences and 2. Will the 16 inch alloys give slightly more range? Thanks in advance

Is it already registered? That adds an owner, potentially reducing its value down the line.

I'd not be concerned with another owner on the books, especially in an EV.
I had an SVE(tekna)/top spec in a L30. The 17's look miles better and tbh range is affected by like 1%. The cost of replacing the tyres is a different matter. 16's are a good bit cheaper.
    I'm assuming its a L40 you're getting?
It basically boils down to whether are not you think the extra's are worth the extra cash.
    SV premium
"It has 17” alloys, all around view monitor with moving object detection, intelligent driver alertness and parking sensors (front and rear)"

Apologies yes leaf 40 , Yes and to add electric folding mirrors and auto dimming rear view mirror , all stuff I don't really need bit seems like a lot of kit for the extra 1300 i am not sure what to do and for how long the tyres last I would end be overly concerned about the price difference

SV has no parkings sensors at all? And no pro pilot, and still a list price of €30k before delivery and metallic paint? That seems pretty poor value, seeing as you can get an Ioniq that has both for €26k on the road

From a quick google, the SV premium also has pro-pilot? That plus the parking sensors would be worth the 1300 premium imho. Still not a cheap car, the Leaf. What deals are people getting on these, any discounts or scrappage?

Nope Pro-pilot is a €1000 option for the SV premium.
    Intelligent lights another €900
and cold pack €400 (which is the only thing id definitely spec)

I have the SV premium (with cold pack) and love it. I suggest getting the cold pack regardless of which car you buy.

For me, having the parking sensors was very important and having the cameras all round the car (I think that's the all around view monitor) is very useful when maneouvring in tight spaces. If you're a better parker, this may be less important :)

I do also like the folding mirrors - occasionally useful in tight spaces.

    You have just answered it.
In your case - you don’t need it and it’s over the budget you set.
In my case - I could not afford an SVE when I first got a Leaf so I picked the SV.
But when I got a chance, I traded in the L24SV for an L30SVE and guess what - absolutely loved anything I did not (could not afford) need :) and made sure our second Leaf was SVE too...

My advice - get into the EV world as cheap as you can. The bells and whistles will come into place once you go for your next EV as you’d be perfectly sure if you really need them or not.

But yes... the steering wheel heater alone is worth the extra €1300 :-)
Saves me fingers every bloody cold morning :)

The reslae value of a Tekna with extra options will be standing OUT against all the others standard cars.
You will get the money back and a safe resale decent and fast,as your will be different than all the others.

At least that what made me buy the Tekna dearer but nicer.
Now,i am using all the extra options, inclusive the wheel heating ... cant live without it.

Your call but hope to chat again in couple of years when you sale it...

Resale of the Leaf40 is anyone's guess, top spec or not

I would be getting as low price as I could if I was buying one

Tesla Model 3 will be here in a year and will drive down prices of all other long range EVs like Kona, Niro, Leaf 60 etc

VW if rumours are true will have a competitive long range Tesla Model rival out in 18 months

Short range EV’s like Leaf40, Zoe40, Ioniq28 will be about 25k max brand new imo, if VW and Tesla get it right, which they will imo

For the extra 400 euro, the cold pack is well worth it. Nice getting into a cosy warm car on a cold morning with the heated steering wheel as mentioned. :)

The SV has no leather seats. The fabric seats aren’t that cold in the winter. It is a good thing to have but not essential.
How many times I see people driving in the cold (5-10’C) with a window open :)

Typically after a very long winter mountain hike. I'd be plenty warm when I get to the car :D

As bp_me says, heater on full. Hat and scarf on. No gloves though. And no heated steering wheel

Back home any thing below 17’C is considered as freezing :)
