Covering for a job sharer

I work in the public service. A few years ago another person was posted in to work in my area. This person has been given the okay to go job sharing and I was asked to take over a large amount of this persons work.
I have seen in the past where people get lumped with a similar setup and get no acknowledgment or promotion for ever doing so.
I understand people do two and three peoples jobs where they are under resourced and I am no different.

I didn't want to be uncooperative and agreed to take over a large proportion of the other persons work load....Just wondering if anyone has any advice.
