    https://www.independent.ie/entertainment/music/ed-power-time-has-come-to-relocate-fairytale-of-new-york-to-that-dark-room-reserved-for-things-that-were-once-acceptable-but-no-longer-are-37606629.html

I don't want to live in this world anymore....

As Ireland lurches in the same bat **** crazy "progressive" direction of the US and UK, what is the desired end result here?

Where will this end? Are we trying to create a society where nobody is offended by anything ever?

I honestly though the Irish people had an inherent ability to detect bull**** like this but apparently not....

The march is on in Ireland to completely sanitise society and I fear we will be left with a joyless, humourless bunch blue haired overweight inter-sectionalists dictating what is and what is not acceptable...

I will continue to belt out that national treasure of a song every Xmas to my dying day....

Is anyone here on boards truly offended by this song?

Mars is on the nippy side, be sure to wrap up.

Don't know who Ed Power is, nor do I care. The article is a load of ****e. I suspect he's trying to make himself relevant.

While anyone is free to like or hate an artists, songwriter, song etc. His view that a Pouges fan is the type of person to engage in "olé, olé, olés", with some referred to, but non explicit stereotyping/characterisation, tells me all I need to know about the author.

Does the song bother me, no. Should it cast away as posited by the author? Definitely not.

It is a fantastic song, if somewhat overplayed at this time of year.
I don't see why the author feels true/real depictions of characters are fine for film/tv but shouldn't be allowed in "pop songs".

Nigel Owens has made some very good points on his social media this week about this particular issue. He is not offended by it.

I hope this song lives on, uncensored for decades to come.

People really need to find something productive to do with their lives.

Replace the "fa..ot" word with the "N" word.

Then see if it's a big deal.

Are you sure you’re living here in the first place? It’s ancient news at this stage :p

I don't want to live in this world anymore because someone wrote something that I disagree with.

Yeah, that word is never used in any song.

    Letter to Viz magazine:
How come rap artist Dr. Dre can use the 'N' word on his multi-million selling albums and win a MOBO award, yet when I used it at my son's football match I was asked to leave the park? Once again, it's one law for the rich and another for the poor.
