Overheating issue?

Looking for genuine advice regarding an overheating issue. I have a 08 Nissan March and one day recently it overheated on the motorway after 35mins of driving not just that but their was spewing of coolant around the tank area so got it towed home and not risk driving, give it to the mechanic who done a job on it starting with having the radiator cleaned, checked the water pump, thermostat and all was good their and changed coolant so he said the next thing would be the head gasket if it were to go into overheating again and it hasn’t BUT since am keeping an eye on I do notice fresh coolant outside of the tank and the radiator fan kicks in more whilst on idle, anyone know what possibly could be going wrong? Thanks

If it is leaking coolant, and you can see that coolant around the expansion tank then I would have to assume you have a cracked tank. I'm not familiar with these cars, but typically expansion tanks are made of plastic and do fail/need replacing at some point. I'm surprised the mechanic sent you on your way without diagnosing further...

Since this isn't a DIY job I've moved this to the main motors forum.

It is going into overheating, fan is kicking in also more often than not, yeah I feel he took advantage of my situation knowing too well maybe, the coolant appears to be coming from the very top around the cap area it’s strange, you still wouldn’t recommend to drive at all times n that state?

If the coolant is coming out of the rad cap, the cooling system is either overfilled, or indeed the head gasket is gone and is pressurising the system.

If you are handy with cars you could take the plugs out and inspect them. Typically one or 2 will look 'washed' compared to the others if coolant is leaking into a cylinder.

The overflow tank isn’t full to the brim but does appear to be coming from there opposed to the radiator, will check that so I suppose in the meantime by keeping driving it is a no no?

I personally wouldn't drive it far until it's fixed.
